guys i installed my chip into a mates lux as mine has no donk at the moment.. read the manual and it shows a picture of the white switches to change the tune but when i open the box i only have the blue turn dial, what do you have ?

i also matched the part number on the manual and the part number on the unit... manuals last numbers are 100 and the unit 150, all other numbers the same...

From my understanding the dial is just the newer version. I have my dial in the middle, turn it to the left for a bit less, turn it to the right for a bit more mumbo jumbo. So I was told by Crossport, a long time member and supplier.

I haven't stuffed around with the dial and therefore can't say how much difference it makes, others have commented that it doesn't make much difference, but every motor is different.

From memory the manual talks about adjusting the white switches to potentially smooth out the idle? Interesting concept as the chip doesn't activate or work until you apply approx 30% throttle.

I bought a 2012 dual cab SR5 in May and was a little disappointed to say the least with the engine, it accelerated quite well as long as the revs were up but it lacked that low down grunt i expect from a turbo diesel, (read: hopeless for towing). I had a Rodeo 05 before that and i know it has less power and torque but it is geared accordingly and you could tow with it all day with very few gear changes, those Isuzu motors sound like a tim full of marbles but they just keep on going
I reckon this Hilux its a bit overgeared for the amount of torque the engine has, after all these are suposed to be a workhorse not a racehorse, on the gearing does anyone know if the gearing is any different on the sr to sr5 as the sr5 has 17" wheels and the tyres measure nearly 31 inches and the sr/workmates have 15's and they measure 29". Are the diff ratios the same.
Anyway i bought a chip (the fuel rail pressure type, don't really want to name it) but was sadly dissapointed with it, there was only one setting i could feel or time any extra performance and it chuffed out black smoke like an old jallopy.
So i sent it back for a refund, and then installed a Beaudesert exhaust, that made a small difference, the engine felt a bit freer and seemed to rev a little easier. Then i decided to try a Steinbauer chip. Wow what a difference, it still doesn't nail you to the seat (it is a 4cyl diesel after all) but a noticable difference it is, it has much more low down lugging power than it had, much less gear changing, so much better to drive. Was a bit concerned about the extra fuel consumption but just did a full tank, approx 150kms around town, 30 mins low range in heavy sand and the rest highway and the fuel light came on at 740kms. Pretty happy with that. So far i can't fault this chip it has made the vehicle so much better to drive. I know there are chips out there making claims of 50% or more increases, but the steinbauer says 20% and i think it is every bit of that, very impressed, and i couldn't find any negative issues on these on any forum.

Can I ask a silly question? (just did)

Im running a steiny and know how it works, I might be hearing things but........
when just labouring around town (in D mine is auto) somewhere around 1000-1500 RPM, is this bad for the motor?
The reason I ask I drive it like I stole it when it need to be, but most of the time is a baby, Ive notice a bit of diesel rattle whilst im labouring around town only, No worries when im driving or wheeling and thefoot is down.
Im lead to believe the steiny put more fuel into the pot on the power stroke. But what if your not using all the power?
Any thought or experiences would be great, I might just be hearing things.

cheers
Craig

Sorry, someone else with more experience in the matter might have more of a clue on your issue.

Hey guys I have run a the Dp chip and the Steibbauer on my last couple of diesels and while i had a shit load of problems with the dp the steinbauer never let me down. Although i have mentioned this in detail in other threads I believe that the performance was a lot better with the dp but the reliability was not.
My current 2012 Hilux at the moment only has the sprintbooster installed and am finding it adequate but at the same time I am not towing as much these days.I am tossing up whether to put another chip in.
Over the last few weeks i know of a couple of Hilux's over here in Perth with chips installed ( not Steinbauer but fuel rail types) that have gone bang, both were 2009 SR5's auto's never driven hard little offroad use and out of warranty. The guys are trying to say that it was faulty injectors not the chips and are awaiting from a response from Toyota but whatever was to blame there been told it will cost $15k a piece to fix.
I'm not sure if i want to take that risk anymore and if i do it would definitely be a Steinbauer.

Any fuel rail type is asking for trouble if you ask me fellas, the injector plug type has to be the safest way of going about it for sure. I've had VMN in since the car was brand new, now has 70,000 on it and not one limp code or injector trouble, steinbauer works in an identical way so im not worried about it at all

Does any one know what setting to put the older white slide switch type,

I would'nt mind having a play around with it but would like to know a couple of different settings before I play.

Cheers

This is what is in the instruction sheet, didn't think it would scan too well so just retyped it.
Not sure why you would want to tune it to less than 100%??
Mine is the newer model which just has a small knob to turn up or down, but they sent me the instructions for the switch type

On = 1
Off = 0

Switch No 1 Switch No 2 Switch No 3 Switch No 4 Power gain
1 1 0 0 130%
0 1 0 0 120%
1 0 0 0 110%
0 0 0 0 100%
1 0 0 1 90%
0 1 0 1 80%
1 1 0 1 70%

I've been told by my local Steinbauer supplier that if I buy the Steinbauer chip with the 2" exhaust and later change my exhaust to a 3", that the Steinbauer module would no longer work properly. However, judging from what I have read in this thread, that is not entirely true. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Well, here was his exact response via email and it looks like something was left off the end of the message. His English is poor but he is the only supplier in my country so I am stuck with him. For this reason, I find this site invaluable. :D

"- Regarding the exhaust system - if you do replace the entire exhaust system, the module 220068 will not operate properly, normal operation will be replaced only if the last part of the exhaust system"

I've spoken to my nearest installer some 120km from where my vechile is stabled and the cost is $1600 and about an hour and a half wait. The product seems impressive but it only brings the lux up to Prado specs he says. Top end for cruising on the highway seems to be the norm for most Prados. He tells me I'll lose low down performance slightly thats why the hilux is a workhorse engine spec. Please advise as my son-in-law say dp chip is not as good from his experience
