New to this form.
Last year I purchased a Hilux 2012 diesel 4x4 dual cab manual transmission - ex mining car.
Its fuel gauge reads incorrect fuel level always. for weeks it stays at full and next day at half or less thank 1/4 tank. I can not figure out any relation of the needle with actual fuel in the tank. The electrician has referred to a car meters technician in Perth. They do not not attend the cars but want me to take the fuel gauge to them for fixing for $350 minimum. This will fix only if the problem is with gauge. The problem could be in fuel tank cable/connections.
Can some one suggest me a place in Perth to get it fixed and/or guide me how to take the fuel gauge out of the dashboard.
Thanks

Does it have a long range tank fitted?

Sounds like how my gauge works, my gauge doesn't move until I have driven 900ks or so.

My one is not 1/4 of a tank thing. The needle stops any where it likes for weeks. Nowadays it is stuck at 1/8 of a tank regards level of diesel in the tank.
On Saturday I took it to an instrument repairer. He has diagnosed the problem with sender not the gauge.

Hi Just an update i did fix the issue i put in a some injector cleaner and i cleaned out on the fuel cap there is a tiny hole which may breath and when going on dirt roads a lot can get blocked. I pulled it apart and cleaned the fuel cap. It was one or the other i have not had this issue since.

Test the signal wiring. If you earth out say and old heat gauge, it will show up as "HOT" (100%) on the gauge.

Hey all. Looks to be great info on the problem I’m having with my 2014. Reads half full and doesn’t go any lower. Almost ran out of fuel. Question is. Is there in YouTube clips showing how to do the soldering job to the relays. Thanks

I have a 2012 3.0. Ive been towed twice and checked every possible thing in the engine. Then realized tank was empty with the gauge at half full. Need to show the electrician the picture on page 2 and hope it gets fixed.
