Why dont any dealers change injector seals?

Postby Hellbound on Wed, 10 Dec 2014 12:54 +0000

Gday, im reading lots of info about mechanics changing the injector seals every so many kms but can anyone tell me why NO dealers actually do it as part of the normal service, or even offer to do it as part of regular servicing?

Surely if toyota australia is asking for it to be done every so often, why dont any dealers suggest to do it ?

How often are they saying it should be done? Is it within the 3 year/100,000 km window?

Every 80,000kms from what ive read.

Seems like the decent independant diesel mechanics do it but toyota dont even offer to do it...

Toyota does some great things, post-sales support is not one of them. It's a shame the Toyota brand doesn't adopt some of the Lexus support, but then again, perhaps it's a sales ploy to drive people to Lexus if they're seeking a better experience.

How much roughly does it cost to get the seals replaced?

Had mine done at the 160000km mark, along with the major service along with a diagnostic on the injectors. Was around the $850 mark from memory.

It is not offered as it is not included anymore In the fixed price serving as it is not required. If you want it done and are happy to pay for it just say you want it done and it will be.

Understood, but if its something that needs to be done every so many km then why is it never offered to the customer?

That is just it. It does not need to be done any more. After the change to the different seals.
