2" or 3" Suspension lift

Postby StoneySR05 on Sat, 16 Jun 2007 9:40 +0000

I finished doing the lift today, started at 8.30am this morning and finished around 4.00pm, I didn't think it took that long considering I installed it all by myself.

The front went up about 45mm and the rear about 50mm, is that how much you would normally expect from an ARB lift?

I went for a small test drive and the lift kit gives the car a better ride than standard.

I think I am happy, I would of liked it if the back went up another 20mm or so. I think that it maybe ARB philosophy not to go for the extra lift as they could not put any longer shocks on the rear as when the leaf's and shock are at full droop the brake line is nearly tight. So I am assuming that you would get the same amount of flex if the back was higher. (I hope this makes sense)

Sorry but I like the look of the Airtec snorkel.

Congrats StoneySR05,
Your comment:-
>I would of liked it if the back went up another 20mm or so.<
Beware, braking becomes an issue, well . . for me anyway, plus Rich + felix.
I'd be getting a wheel alignment after your lift, . .. just to ensure. Plus check out the link on "Self Adjusting Rear Drum Brakes" this site (Idon't know how to link within this site yet).
Cheers

StoneySR05,
A bit late, but doing a bit of work in between. Yeah, go the airtec, . . . looks much neater (true call!) & I've also seen colour coded airtec assemblies n other luxes. They look great . . . wish I had of got mine colour coded . . . then my lux would have looked like a "virgin" . . all white!

Thats pretty good amount of lift for the front stoney, arb`s paper work says 30mm front and 75 rear so sounds if there way out.

How do you find the front...about right or could go a little firmer?

I might change my order to softer springs if you think there about right:-)

Cheers

Stu,

I don't think you would want the front much firmer, it is really good at the moment, I don't have any extra weight on the front so I don't think I would like to go any heavier.

I have not done the complete measure after the lift yet, I will do it today and post the results.

On the invoice it says that the front springs are for upto 75kgs of extra weight

Stu,

I have done 20km since I installed the kit yesterday and this i the results

Front Right 43mm raised

Front Left 40mm raised

Rear Right 55mm raised

Rear Left 50mm raised

Hopefully this is fairly accurate +/- a couple of millimetres

Thanks Stoney, sounds like i might change my order to the light rate springs then. The only thing mine will have extra is the arb steel bar and surly that can`t weigh 75 kgs

Rippin5l,

The suspension wasn't to hard to install I was surprised the hardest part is dismantling and reassembling the front struts, I only had a spring compressor and the garage floor, wish I had more of a workshop.

Hopefully in a couple of months a few mates want to go to Barrington Tops for a couple of days, sound like fun.

Stu,

I don't know how much the bar would weigh, I would imagine that you would only fit the heavy springs if you have bar, winch and maybe dual battery. What does ARB recommend?

Yeah pretty much what arb said but when we looked at the specs the HD spring is the same rate but longer(but runs a stiffer shock). So that should mean the same ride but with more lift :-)
Arb guy looked a bit unsure when I suggested that but seemed to agree...

Maybe get the HD spring with the shock that suits the light spring.

Funny you say that, cause I rang em back to change my order to the light shock and they say its not compatible but they don`t really know why, I thought maybe to short.
