What struts? They could be talking about spring spacers?

dobinsons mrr ?? pretty sure they said strut spacers and a diff drop would be needed to not sure wether it's worth the hassle and money for an extra 20mm

Just stick with standard 2" lifts.
Not worth the hassle is right.

Hello everyone,
I got a new Dobinson Mrr lift kit for my
Toyota hilux 2007 dual cab, so
After 2 weeks, the front of the car drops
About an inch and the car becomes uneven i consult the workshop who installed the kit and asked since its coil overs can i just adjust the springs a little higher..
He goes to me rather than raising the springs and putting pressure on the struts , i can install a 10mm strut spacer for you for $293. I said i would think about it and up until today , i was actually considering it.
I really dont know what to do? I payed extra for coil overs so that i can have the flexibility to adjust the height if it ever dropped.Im really confused right now.

Thanks

Adjust ya coils, thats what its there for! They wouldn't have made them adjustable if the strut couldn't handle the pressure.

Sounds like your workshop does not have a coil compressor. Can be very hard to wind up suspension with the load on the springs.

Im sure they have all the gadgets , it was a proper suspension store who does a heap of cars a week.
TOYZX - I want to adjust them, but didnt want to do it myself because im afraid i might not do it right, and will need a wheel alignment.

This is the message they sent to me.
Hi mate , They do benefit from a diff drop kit . And to bump the front up a touch more we can put a 10mm coil spacer on top of the strut rather than adjusting the strut up more as this will put more pressure on the Spring. The strut spacer is a much more appropriate option as the ride will stay the same.

The guy is very honest and im just confused right now.
Because like TOYZX said coilovers are made to be adjusted, this would just defeat the whole purpose.
Thanks guys

yeah i had the same thing happen to me seems a bit wierd they can't adjust them maybe there just chasing a bit more coin. if i went down the diff drop route i would want at least 3" of lift

Hey everyone,
So im a little confused right now.

I dont know if im getting the wrong informatio or if its the right thing to do.

So i got a new Dobinson Mrr Height adjustable coilovers ,in february 2016. The front has dropped a bit and i asked the installers which are an authorised dealer of this suspension and are quite knowledgable,Can i adjust my coilovers at the front to level out my vehicle.

He told me that adjusting the coilovers will put too much preasure on the springs and that i should put 10mm strut spacers which he says will raise the car 20mm at the front.

Also they said if i adjust my suspension more than the already 50mm, that my warranty will be voided completely.

I booked in steut spacer install for next week tuesday, but im not sure whether to proceed, any information will be of great help.
Cheers Dennis

Whats the point of then being adjustable then??? Why have they dropped? Or have they just settled?

I don't have any first hand experience with them on my Lux, but from all the reading about it, it's a gamble. Get a second opinion from a separate suspension mob about the adjusting.

I had 2" spacers on my Forester. Turned the ride to shit. Took them off after about 2 months.

My thoughts exactly, I honestly bought them to have that flexibility, it just doesnt make sense right?.

They have settled at the front and it looks dipped to the front now.

I just don't want to lose warranty because they are pricy , but dont want to be unsafe with the spacers or chabge ride quality.

How much has it gone down from when you had them fitted? If it's heaps then tell them ya want new springs, they obviously aren't the correct springs for your weight. Voiding warranty cos you want it wound up a bit is ridiculous!

Its literally about 1 inch down, I will call them tommorow and talk to them about the springs..I should also cancel the strut spacer install because it just doesnt make sense at this stage.

Yeah they shouldnt void warranty,if i knew before i bought it i would have just got ordinary struts.

I would guess that your installer does not have a spring compressor. There is a limit you can adjust a coilover without taking the tension off the coil. Find a shop with one.

You all know my thoughts on spacers as I started this thread but if you add bump stop extensions to ensure that the shock can't bottom out, they can be used safely. But Why?

I dont see how adjusting your adjustable shock could do anything harmful to your springs. All its doing is moving the bottom shock body and eye down its not magically putting more weight on your springs. Mine settled about 25mm after being installed ( mr matrix) and i think thats about normal. Just go buy some spring compressors and wind them up yourself or find a better shop.

I'd find a new shop! Them guys obviously have now idea what they are talking about and have no interest in customer service! I'm with vmn, most have seen what happened to mine. We keep my bent strut on display in our showroom to show people why they should do a lift properly.

Thankyou everyone for the advice.

I have sent an email to cancel strut spacers.

I figured , since i payed so much for the convenience of having height adjustable coil overs ,i might aswell make the most of them.

I will call around tommorow, I live near melbourne airport, there is a few good 4x4 shops around i will ask if they have the spring compressor and see if i can get it done.
