I have sent an email to cancel strut spacers.

I figured , since i payed so much for the convenience of having height adjustable coil overs ,i might aswell make the most of them.

I will call around tommorow, I live near melbourne airport, there is a few good 4x4 shops around i will ask if they have the spring compressor and see if i can get it done.

Cheers Dennis

I'm glad you did not take the advice to buy your own spring compressors. I saw a photo once of some in use on a Hilux spring and they were so badly bent under tension, that I threw my unused Supercheap compressors in the bin! Not safe for a Hilux spring. You need ones that bolt to the wall.

With the spring under tension, the thread binds and you risk stripping the thread on the coilover IF you have the strength to turn the nut on the shock body.

I wanted to slightly raise the front of my ute to level the rake of the vehicle and after a few months of reading mixed reviews, i finally went in to my local ARB/4x4 store and asked their opinion of strut spacers.

By chance they had a ute in the shop that had a broken strut due to spacers. So the answer is pretty simple, don't get strut spacers. For under $1000 i can get a pair of new OME coil overs that'll raise the front around 35mm and that seams like a no brainer.

Good choice! We have one of my wrecked struts in our showroom on display, is an eye opener for a stack of people!

Cameron, I'm glad you can back up the original post. Of course I'd much rather people ask VMN :) After all, we are the Hilux specialist.

Its hard to believe that I started this thread over 7 years ago and there are still disbelievers!

There are plenty of better options available on the VMN store, just follow the link in my signature below!

Yeah i was hoping a one page thread with big capitals "don't buy strut spacers" with heaps of support below it.

Unfortunately I'm in NZ so i don't have a huge amount of options and AU stores make it harder to get parts over the ditch.

Cameron, there are some AU stores that welcome customers that don't live in AU. VMN has customers all of the world including NZ. Last week we sent a roof console to Sweden and today I'm sending an order to Indonesia. Full integration with my DHL account and the store is shceduled to be completed by November.

And the good thing is; all we sell is Hilux N70 and N80 parts! So if there is something in particular you are looking for, send us a message via this link https://www.vehiclemods.net.au/contact-us

Try Superior Engineering
I'm in Auckland and I got a set of springs over Christmas in 3 days
Fantastic guys to deal with and I'm sure there are plenty more as well
Keep away from the strut spacers

So what is the final verdict if I want to lift the front of my sr5 1 inch? There are so many conflicting answers.

What height are you running now? Its hard to advise without knowing how high you are now.

It’s bog stock, 2008 dual cab diesel with an alloy bull bar.
Do you need measurements?

Really, your shocks and springs will be stuffed so not really worth spending money on, so a better solution would be to replace the front struts with a 2" set. We do ZipPay if it helps. Send me a PM if you want to explore this option.

Sorry for pulling this old thread back up.
I have a full OME setup on my 2010 Hilux D cab, but the front is sitting much lower in the front then what i like it to be. How much will a 6mm strut spacer help? Just want it to be more leveled out then what it is now. Cheers if anyone replies me :)

That much will be fine as long as you space up your bump stops as well.

Old threads are better than starting new ones.

My ARB dealer offered a very small spacer to help compensate for the sag of springs after they settled.
But that’s for very small differences in height.
If the height difference is noticeable, it’s probably the that fact that hilux come with a nose down rake from factory and you probably put a 2” lift in the front and 3”lift in the back. So you’re better off raising the front further without a spacer?

But then I could be talk out my a*rse.

Cheers, Cam

Thanks for replying guys!
Well, the OME lift i have is a 2", thats for sure.
Im not sure how big the spacers should be, but either 6mm or 10-12mm should be good maybe?

Here are some pics, before and after.

OME have coil spacers that are a collar that goes around the shock under the lower spring seat. Generally speaking OME call it a 2in lift buy I think the book says 40mm. If it has sagged a fair bit you could try and get warranty replacements but if it's sagged cos you've added weight then try their coil spacers first. I already have two 5mm coil spacers in each of mine, it helped a little.

Thanks Luke,
Trying to find what you are describing, i'm finding POLY URETHANE PACKER, looks like they are installed on top the spring, not on top of the coil. And then i find SPRING SEAT PACKER, but with no picture how it is installed...
