WOW this is the first time i have read this thread. I just cryed a little.

Hope this ends well for 4wd owners.

Surely you can get the system calibrated after the tyres and lift is competed.
How did they build the system to the factory setup in the first place , its called hours of fun writing code

Won't be long till every car on the market has this as a "safety feature". It's definately not going to stop installing modified suspension but if you are currently completing a engineering degree (like myself) there is money to be made in the future. :)

This does not realy answer the question , but some info for others.

The new hilux handles fine with a good 4" lift. i have even done some emergency stops and swerving in an industrail area to test the monster rides/DMS gear out .
Also tried to push it out of control, into a slide and all the VSC works fine. It will not let you drift at 80km at all (make sure you pump your stock tyres up hard if you are going to try this) . it just sucks power, then bleh.

It handles better than some other cars i have owned with factory suspension! .

DMS shocks are set to as soft as they can go.
P.S i have no swaybar aswell

Wish they would just pass this law. 4WD's should be exempt from this.

Also if someone can tell me why extended shackles are illegal. Sorry for being such a noob. Just PM me to keep this thread clean.

I do not condone this methode of testing at all, do it at your own risk!

I've got a 2013 SR5, and looking at getting a 2" lift kit and some bigger rubbber.. Have been reading through this thread along with the modification standards section LS of VS14.. Has there been any more news on what the deal is with lifting a vehicle with ESC.

Any news would be great, Thanks

I'm looking to buy a 2012 SR5 and from what I understand, after reading this thread and the VS14 document, modifications are allowed as long there is evidence from the vehicle manufacturer or that there has been testing done that the mods won't effect the ESC.

I'm likely looking at an EFS suspension set with Bilstein shocks, not sure on tyres yet. So I'm not entirely sure how we get this evidence.. does the manufacturer of the mods do testing? Does the installer do any testing? Or do I have to go and get and engineer for it all?

Thanks

Hey guys, my hilux is dec/12 built and has vsc..... i also have a monster rides kit set at 3.5" and 33" muddies. The only time I've come across a problem is on the beach where the vsc was "doing its job" and kept kicking me out of the ruts i was following :( so i switched it off via the dash and didn't have a problem after that.

As for before i sought after the kit and tyres, i emailed toyota head office and my local toyota service centre, both had nothing to say about it and were very broad. I also emailed QLD transport for more info and the response was basically "as long as the mods don't affect the safety of the vehicle", so out of frustration i got the gear anyway.

My question is, has anyone successfully removed the vsc module? or is it even possible? i only ask because it takes up some prime real estate in my engine bay area! 8-)

i honestly dont believe removing it is possible, from my understanding the VSC is incorporated in to the ABS, EBD, BA and Traction Control systems.
VSC is even tied into the 4X4 system as it is shut down when low range is selected

Cheers for the reply pete!

My fears exactly, oh well there's more places to mount the compressor. :P

Any more news on the legalities of lifting vehicles with VSC/ESC?
Really keen to lift my 2013 MY14 the 2" but want to stay legal from an insurance aspect.

depends on state, but afaik the maximum lift my any means is still 50mm

that said, imo 2" suspension and 32's is safe and a good setup

Yeah thats the setup i'm planning on 265/70R17 and 2" ultimate lift. When i spoke to ultimate they said they had a setup that was in testing for approval for ESC equipped vehicles. Just wondering if anymore info was available on this.

I have already enquired with my insurance and they have said no problems with two inch lift on my model. But do you trust them that is the question?

Just really miss the ride and handling I had in the last hilux with their kit and I want that same gear in the new one.

I know QLD has adopted the NCOP but it is open to interpretation in many areas.

Hey Geebung,

I have a 2" efs lift and 265/70/17's on 2011 with ESC.
I haven't had any issues with insurance (racq) but then again I haven't claimed anything. They never said anything to me when I added it onto insurance.

I suppose thats the thing if they accept it on the policy it must be alright.
Might just bite the bullet and do it.

ESC is electronic stability control same thing as VSC.

Ultimate, been over a month since last post. Any updates on this issue being passed for a 50mm lift?

Sorry guys, I missed this post. There hasn't been any update since previous replies. The new laws haven't been gazetted yet. We have done testing on our 2" kits and found no issues with the current VSC (There was previously an issue but a software update from Toyota fixed this). The engineer's we work with are happy with these kits and deem them safe and legal for road use under owner certification.

Hey Brendan
What issues and which builds?

I don't know the VIN range, but basically when the Hilux came out with VSC, there was an issue with YAW rate sensors being too sensitive. If you did heavy towing with standard suspension or fitted a lift kit, the DSF brake would engage on some corners. This has been fixed by Toyota with a software update. There is a thread about it on here some where. Just on my phone atm which makes it hard to search.
