Yeah exactly it's one thing if it happened to me but imagine if the wife was driving. My lift and tyre mods worry me a bit when she drives it if something happened.

Update for those who are interested;

I spoke to "Technical Department" at RTA in NSW (now RMS) and asked them about tyre size increase and lifts on vehicles with ESC (or similar) within the allowed variances before an engineers certificate was necessary.

Their response was that "it was acceptable as long as the vehicle manufacturer approved such modifications."

I spoke to Toyota in regard to the SR5 and they said they "didn't recommend it, but that's not to say you can't do it"....which to me, doesn't sound like they're approving it.

That sounds like a "Sure, do it, we dont cover injectors, or most other warranty claims, why should this be any different"...

I wouldn't expect an easy answer from Toyota - the easiest and quickest way for them to cover their own hides is simply to advise you keep it stock.

Bummer as would love an SR5 but looks like SR with $$$ up-grades is the only option.

The laws haven't been gazetted yet but there are some big changes coming through. The new laws actually work in favour for us four wheel drivers and we can modify vehicles with ESC. Once everything is finalised, I will update the forum.

Don't rely on Toyota helping in any active way.

Have you heard that the Victorian SES & CFA have effectively banned Hiluxes from their fleet because of the front axle weight restrictions? Essentially, Toyota are stating that the weight of a bullbar and winch along with passengers is too much for the front axle.

Toyota could fix this by amending their specs slightly. Given the fudge-factor that engineers put on such specs, this should be do-able. But Toyota won't do it.

So the services are ditching them FAST. You won't see a SES Hilux out there with a bullbar - they've all been removed. Probably the same for CFA by now but not sure.

Word has it that all other govt departments will follow (DSE, DPI, etc) and NSW have just jumped on the bandwagon too.

Say goodbye to your resale value, fellas.

Nissan are in the same basket with the Navara.

On the other hand, Rangers, BT50s and Rodeos will be in short supply soon. They pass the tests.

Nah - your insurance is valid for all states once you've got it.

Any news on this? I live in qld and see that my ARB lift is ok because ARB has tested their lift and esc operation. It becomes difficult because once you change the mix by adding non standard tyres with the ARB lift that negates the ARB data and guarantee.

It's certainly a tricky subject.
