Great! This is just the info I was looking for. Thanks guys! Member Gecks on this forum has King HDD coils and claims to have obtained a true 50mm lift on the front with ARB bull bar and winch after it settled into place. He says he intends to add a dual battery system. Thanks for the heads up on that Gecks. I had sent an email to King Springs regarding their catalog not providing any specifications and was in need of that information, but they did not reply. So, here is the info I needed in this thread. For me, HD King coils front, Toughdog 400kg-GVM rear, Bilsteins all around. I considered HDD King fronts, but would need load assist bags to keep the rear up when I go touring and don't want to angle the CV joints too much.

Top thread. Its a bit off topic but do forum members have the collective knowledge to compile a similar database on struts. Bore and rod size, free and compressed lengths, valving setup?

I'm using the Kings KTFR-101HD coils, I have an ARB bar,9500lb winch, and dual batteries. I do a fair bit of dirt road driving and an annual trip up cape or gulf, and have had no chassis problems. It's an 05 model, I origionally used old man emu, not sure if it was med or heavy, fitted by ARB with winch and bar already on the vehicle, and it sagged badly. The Kings have been on the vehicle for three years. I'm looking at a new lux and will be putting Kings back on the front.

hi all

i have just finshed installing ome 884 on hilux 2011
and drove it all day in the vineyards and at the end of the day i have mesuerd the haghit of it
and i see the driver side is lower in 10 milimeters .
i have had the 883 with the trim pack but they were to low.
i have added on the cso44r rear leaf sping of ome allso for the compleate set
the ride is very good
i have allso some shudder in take off
and i dont have any bull bar or winch at the moment
any advice will be greatly appreichated

I know the CalOffroad front coils come in 3 different lengths and are very specific to height required and load carried

Hi guys,
I've got the truck booked in on Friday to raise the front at last.
I'm going with efs extra heavy duty to allow for an arb bar and a winch down the track.( already have dual batt)
Two questions.
1. Has anyone kept their stock struts in with 2" lift springs. The guy said they would be ok as I do about 90% road use.
2. Will it be really hard at the front untill I get the extra weight on there(ie arb bar & winch).

Personally I think the front will simply be too hard and too high without the extra weight. I would seriously consider getting the accessories first and then doing the suspension or going with a softer coil for now and upgrading at a later date.

Regardless of what type of driving you do, you definitely should not be re-using the original struts with extra heavy duty coils. The valving is completely wrong and in my opinion, they are not strong enough to handle heavier coil. The struts will be overworked trying to control the higher spring rate which will lead to premature fading and eventually shock failure. The original struts also have an inherently weak steam at the bottom which could bend or snap under the extra force. In the long run, replacement struts are not that expensive and can save you a lot of money and heartache in the future.

Any aftermarket strut will improve the handling and will prevent the ride from being bouncy and uncontrolled with the heavier coil.

I've just talked the missus into the springs, we've got our 1st kid on the way (16th DEC) :o and shes got the bankers hat on!!!!
I dont think shell notice a couple of struts shoved in there but i might struggle with the Sahara Bar and the winch!!

:lol: Good luck mate and congratulations. If it's not too late to change the order, I would really look into going for a raised height comfort type coil instead to keep the wife happy ;) Nothing worse than a rough ride and constant nagging :lol:

What do you reckon about the EFS Struts mate? They have them in stock and can fit them tomorrow if i want.

Good to see that these threads are getting a work out.
As this thread is only a "guide" ;)
Spring rates are one thing to have a strut to compliment the spring is the package.
Another thing that doesnt really get touched on in these suspension forums is unsprung weight and rebound dampening...
Now there is another thread along with progressive wound springs... :P :P

Hi, I never saw mentioned what the standard springs specs are?

I'm wanting to level out the front a little bit. All I've got at the moment is a nudge bar and spotlights. How much lift will the standard ktfr101's give with standard shocks? Will they just make the ride too uncomfortable?

Premier and I are doing the same thing fitting King Springs to the OME strut.
I made some enquires into the springs available from King and they do supply an more heavier duty spring than the KTFR-101HD.
The spring is the KTFR- 101HDD. It has a free length of 390mm and uses Dia. 18mm wire. It also is the new generation X5K wire (high stress). I ordered both from Repco and picked them up today with the assurance that I could return a set without any problem.

I will be fitting both the Kings to the truck on Wednesday for a comparison. Obviously the HHD will possible raise the suspension up around the 790 - 800 range. It would be good to just fit and look anyway and to gather some tech stats. But I do find the HDD spring interesting as you could use a set of Billies and use the lower circlip positions to achieve a 50mm lift without preloading the spring as much.
Will keep everyone posted on the stats of the lift and of course plenty of photos.

Will chuck a tape on the std spring as I still have the two orginals in the shed.
