Bilstein and Suspension Lift Questions...

Re: Bilstein and Suspension Lift Questions...

Hi Guys,

Just picked up a new 2014 SR5 last week. Came with factory 265/65/17. Dealer fitted genuine tow bar and ARB deluxe winch bull bar. I will eventually want to put a winch as well.

Looking to get a 285/70/17 tyres as I would like to keep the factory 17 rims. I'm keen on the Bilsteins lift kit. What kits would you guys recommend? I like to avoid trimming/rubbing as much as possible. Taking into account of the ARB deluxe winch bull bar and winch. Would 2in be sufficient? Taking into acccount sagging, should I get a slightly higher lift?

I'm based in Perth, any recommendation on installers/suppliers greatly appreciated.

Thanks
WG

Hey guys, I've got 2013 diesel SR5 with an ARB Sahara bar and 265/75/17 BF AT's. After 20,000 km the front suspension was sitting at a low 470mm hub to guard which is more than 40mm below spec. Apart from this being a generally shocking front suspension fail by Toyota, I threw in a set of Bilstein 5100 on King KTFR101HD springs. I ordered pre assembled struts from fulcrum with 300 kg constant load rears which I'll hook up tomorrow. The front is now sitting at 560mm 90mm up from this morning! I expect this to settle back around 10-15mm. Thanks to all who have put up info on this forum as it helped me spec the right springs without having to listen to people trying to sell you what you don't need. Will throw some pics up when I've done the rears.

I will def be adding some adjustable UCAs to the truck as the camber seems to have changed quite a bit.

Would like to know a good front end alignment shop on the north shore of Sydney if any one has info.

Cheers

I got told they're 8mm apart but this is only hearsay, someone else may be able to confirm this. I went with hhd kings on lowest setting. Was sitting at 63mm lift for quite a while but after a few offroad trips it's now settled around 50mm so I'm thinking of going up one groove now. If it is 8mm apart this should in theory put me back around the 66mm mark.

2012 SR DC tray back and Ally canopy.
Front Kings KTFR 101 H on Bilstein/Caloffroad adjustable Struts.
Rear Kings Toy 092 HD ZZ on Bilstein/Caloffroad shocks.

I have the Bilstein Struts with the Kings KTFR 101 H on the lowest setting.....not to sure about the spacing but I think 8 - 10 mm sounds about right.
The H rating on the spring has held up well after almost 2 years, minimal sag with a Sahara Bar, spotties and recently a Wolf winch, and not too stiff.....dual battery is in the rear canopy.

I got the struts and shocks from Cal for $900 delivered and took them to Kings on the Gold Coast who fitted to vehicle while they were fitting the new King springs. So $1900 all up.

Is anyone running there Bilstein B6 strut sir-clips on the highest slot (No4)? At the moment I'm on the third slot with OME coils. 560H

Or is it better to go a 10mm strut spacer so you don't lose any down travel?????????????

Are they the Caloffroad ones or the b6's? I have mine on middle groove with ktfr101hhd's for 60mm lift after it all settled in.

Hi just seeing if anyone can recommend someone in Perth NOR to install the following lift kit to my 2014 Hilux SR5 Dual Cab.

Bilstein Lift Kit - 05-15 Toyota Hilux
(Front Coil Brand: King Springs , Front Springs: Steel Bar, Add Pre-Assembled Struts (with new strut mounts): Yes Please (+$85), Rear Constant Load: 0-150kg, Add Greasable Pins & Shackles: No Thanks, Add Diff Drop Kit: Yes Please (+$115),
and the Roadsafe Quick Lift Kit - Toyota Hilux KUN2 for approx 40mm of lift from autopartsco.com.au.

I left the hilux standard for the first 2 years as I had a toddler but hoping to get some trips in as winter ends and the little fella comes up towards 4yrs and we can enjoy a camping trip or two!

Could anyone confirm the weight of springs is correct for a xrox and dual battery at the front and minimal loading in a standard tub at the back?
2 Adults and a child and camping gear up to 100kgs ish.

Thanks in advance

This may be a very stupid question to some but about 5 month ago i fitted a bullbar and second battery to the stock hilux, the drop in the front is very noticeable and it gets under my skin every time i see it.

To the mechanical minded guys.... if i was to purchase new pre assembled struts for my front what could go wrong?

could i just buy a 40mm lift front strut and spring knowing that i will get some sag from the wait anyway... would i be driving around with the front in the air or would it be relatively level?... i do intend to fit a winch also...

I would just buy a full lift kit and fit it but living in mackay leaves for very uncertain times (and i don't even work in the mines) i just can't justify spending 1-2k to replace everything if i can get away with changing just the front and bringing the car back standing tall and proud 8-) 8-) :D

40mm should be fine as long as your rear hasn't sagged too much as well. If you buy some pre-assembled struts it's a relatively easy job to thro them in if ya handy on the tools.

You could just get some updated front springs from pedders or fulcrum etc. chucked into the existing struts. That would be the cheapest option to get you back to normal ride height with the bar weight.

Talked my self into the 2" front and back, I did it myself in the garage and was surprisingly easy... you cant beat a Friday night working on a project with a handy mounting of beers close by!

Its almost as good as that first one after mowing the grass

Anyone using this kit (see link below) Or have they dealt with Toowoomba Steering and Suspension?

Looking at purchasing the Bilstein 50mm lift with kings in the front and EFS leafs in rear 200Kg constant load.

Any feed back is appreciated.

Cheers Christian

I have had Bilstein shocks all round for a few years now, but the rear have recently started leaking.
I imagine having an ARB rear bar, full length drawers full of shit, fridge, canopy and RTT helps..
They have been awesome shocks, so would like to stick with them and wondering where to go to get them rebuilt? Or do I just buy a new set?

I've got a 2009 SR5 with 31x10.5x15 OPAT2s.

Don't want any additional lift.

Just a refresh of the stock kit. Like fresh front struts/rear shocks and new bushes ect

Any recommendations fellas?

Thanks.
