Its probably been covered before but I cant find it. I had 2 inch lift installed a couple of months ago its good for what I do drive around the paddock mostly cant complian havent been 4 wheel driving yet would expect to once a year when its wet but i noticed the cv hitting the control arm.
Image
The front right cv started clunking the other day so the mechanic replaced the cvs he didn't say they were binding up at full droop he supplied and fitted the lift kit in the first place am I correct that the only way to fix this is a diff drop or change the struts?
Image
I like the lift I was going to buy some new wheels and put some ebay flares on it
Image
What to do as soon as I get a front wheel bogged itll destroy the cv or am I wrong on that ?

thats what I asked for but I think its more all reciets say 2 inch. I thought I was allowed to go 2 inches and still remain roadworthy when I drove off from the mechanic the day it was done I thought it was leagal .
Why a posted a picture of the wheel I like the hieght of it now. The mechanic did want to do diff drop in the begining but i didn't its my fault this has happened if the trueth be told. I didn't realise its a must do not an optional extra.

I dont know what he did but i would go somewhere else and get it looked at. A standard 2 inch lift have been done by thousands and no issues. Also an after market upper control arm. I have had mine 13 years and dont have what you have.

Do you have all the numbers before the lift and after and do you have the part number for the parts fitted .
I agree with hylux

If the first photo is taken with the vehicle on the ground, it has way more than 2in lift.

You can test binding by jacking the vehicle up and turning the wheel round by hand. If the inner end is binding there will be three distinct easy spots of wheel rotation or no movement at all (assuming its out of gear etc). The three distinct spots is the tripod beginning to bind... and no movement means there is too much droop. So if you feel this then yes you'll need a diff drop. Too much droop is when the strut is too long allowing the wheel/suspension to go down too much.

Most 2in lifts dont have a droop problem but I cant see what kit you have or the top hat which might be a short one which allows a lot of droop.

To answer your question about breaking CV... CVs are strongest when they are straight, so think about that when you have the boot down. A light throttle will get you further.

It was on the jack the wheels were off the ground when I took the first photo. Its getting a diff drop on Friday lets hope that will fix it.

Fulcrum have finerly admitted the strut is too long and will be supplying replacements and paying the mechanic to change the strut. I rang them 3 or 4 times got told a bunch of bs the mechanic rang them about 10 times. They told me there is only one strut hat was used across all hilux's and prado. When the local fulcrum dealer is only interested in selling bushes for commodores I guess this is what happens its only been 8 months .

2 Inch 50mm Formula struts they sell for hilux are the struts they are changing.

early last week they finely got installed I went there while they went in,the replacement strut looked the same, same length but less droop the ute sits about the same height drives the same.cv's don't bind . While we were at it we decided to do the lower ball joints as a boot was ripped on one. Ever since I"ve had the ute it had a slight vibration thru the steering wheel at 100k's I thought was wheels. That has gone away 3 different mechanics did roadworthy inspections on it in the last 2 years none found enough movement in the ball joints to knock them for a rwc they didn't break as the vibration has gone away it must of come from them ?

Its very possible. My old range rover had a vibration that was solved with new wheel bearings on the rear and discs on the front.
