New front suspension what’s been tried Sachs, pedders?

Postby Lakies on Mon, 08 Jun 2020 7:47 +0000

Hi team, cracked spring on my 2012 hilux, I replaced the rear leaf springs with a set of Owens leaf springs and karsons shackles and bushes, my front springs fractures so looking at replacing them not sure what springs to go for seen ECP have Sachs springs work out about £130 a pair. Looked on rtrax they have assembled full strut and springs made by pedders standard height but a bit firmer. I don’t want a rough hard ride the pickups used for road work and some off-roading nothing mega heavy so want it to handle good don’t mind paying for the pedders ones if they are decent has anybody tried them standard height? Anybody tried Sachs? Or any recommendations for normal type nice riding springs on their own or with struts?

Do you have any accessories - bullbar etc?

I dont think we get sachs springs over here.

Below is an old spring weight database borrowed from the internet to give you an idea of whats available:

I've read about people doing it, but I have no personal experience... It seems to work but most swap out the strut while they are there as the damper is usually cactus too.

Yeah I was looking at the ready assembled unit strut and spring just ready to fit on seems the easiest option just want to make sure the ride isn’t going to be too different as I do a lot of road miles

Totally understand. Most people find the ride improves with decent quality aftermarket suspension. I think a lot of people are not too concerned about a lift so much as they are looking for better ride quality.

FWIW My experience found the aftermarket suspension had much better ride quality.

Be very cautious about fitting anything with a higher spring rate than stock.

The better quality strut can definitely improve ride, but that improvement be more than lost with an overly stiff spring.

Most of the Aus. aftermarket springs seem to be rated in the expectation that 80/150 kg of extra weight will be fitted, and that the owners will drive fast over rough ground.
