Steering Link Assembly Replacement???

Thanks for allowing me to join the group, looks like lot's of good info.
Here is the issue, 2013 Hilux 4wd, took it to the shop to have the front brakes etc. checked, tech had one guy hold the wheel assembly while he "jiggled" the steering wheel back and forth, there is some play, he says the link assembly needs replacing?? Truck has 120k, lots of highway miles, no issues with steering. Front end does seem to rattle a bit, but has been that way since new (much looser than my old 2009, and similar to my brothers 2015 Fortuner). I think the tech is just looking for work. Is there a spec, an adjusting screw like the old rack and pinion systems?
We are in Panama and there is a tendency to play "gringo bingo
), so we are a bit suspect.
