Independent Suspension set up?

Independent Suspension set up?

Postby Balloontyres on Tue, 20 Nov 2018 2:14 +0000

Anybody ever hear or have some info about an Independent Suspension set up for the Hilux!
yes yes I know lot of people want solid axles only. But I am looking for options to make a Hilux just super comfortable over bad roads! I want to have a system that would beat the Landcruiser by far! There seem to be really only a few people in the world who really know how to engineer these kind of things..
So far I found that independent suspension is the way to go...
Any info very welcome!

It would be very interesting to know if that would give a good ride quality and if you can drive much more comfy over bad roads!

Wouldn't it be easier to buy a vehicle with it already? Commercial vehicles have a solid rear axle (and usually rear leaf springs) for a reason. When they need to carry a bit less load they may fit coils but still with a solid rear axle.

You could try fitting a VE-VF ute rear setup but suspension travel and load carrying ability would probably be compromised. Maybe just use the diff centre and then fabricate your own arms, but again you might be hampered by the CV's and the suspension travel it can give you.

Hiluxxury! good to see you around again!

thanks a lot for reply! Yes the engineering is super expensive it seems..

but would it not be nice to have a kit to have independent suspension on a Hilux? and create super stable and smooth ride!

Haha I'm still around. I recently bought an old BMW x5 and that's keeping me busy. The diesel in that thing is awesome... 160kw and 480nm! That engine should be in the hilux.

I'm sure something could be fabricated and perhaps bolt on like that coil conversion kit for the 70 series. Clearly there is a market for that so maybe as well for a nice riding independent hilux??
