Rectify sagging front end with lift and level

Rectify sagging front end with lift and level

Postby Yotaman on Mon, 23 Apr 2018 6:37 +0000

The front end of my newly acquired 07 SR V6 dual cab has sagged significantly. Current front setup is a Toyota factory steel bullbar and dual batteries, and the rear has a factory canopy on the tub with SR5 flares all round. I plan on fitting a winch at some point. The suspension measurements up front are 445mm from centre hub to inside of flare and 535 on the rear with a light load (100kg max). I am looking at fitting bilstein B6 struts with 101HD king coils supposedly achieving a 75mm front lift according to the eBay seller. I would like to keep the leaf springs and rear shocks for the moment if possible and raise the rear by 50mm with extend shackles. Going off factory heights 500 front and 550 rear this should workout level, lifting the front to 575 and the rear to 585, correct? I plan on replacing the rear shocks and leaves at a later stage.
Questions:
1. which coils do I need with my setup allowing for a winch?
2. Are all bilstein struts the same and is the lift height adjustable from 0 - 75 when assembling?
3. How much will the new coils sag over time?
4. Is what I'm planning going to work or should I go for 50mm lift on the front?

What weight are the kings? 800lbs/in springs would be a minimum with that setup.

Have the rear springs reset- its surprisingly cheap and you can keep it legal.
I might be wrong.

Talk to Ultimate before you do anything, they are only an hour from the Central Coast. If anything it gives you a benchmark to compare to. For about $2000 you can have all new stuff made up to suit your setup, including greasable rear shackles. My 2011 V6 auto had sagged badly, and doing the lot properly transformed the way the vehicle drove. Doing it yourself may end up in a dogs breakfast and not drive as well as it could. They put heavy front spring setup in mine due to front bar and winch and N70T extra battery, and softs in the rear as I don't carry a lot of load normally (has a canopy and Engel fridge). Softs will still take load as they have the same load carrying leafs, just the upper springs are softer for a far better ride. Mine went up about 75mm front (from the sagged position, from original about 45mm) and about 40-45mm in the rear.
The other mod that works well on what you have is 120 Series 'cruiser front rotors and calipers, but you need 17" rims to fit over them. Any 17" 2011-2015 SR5 rims will work, or 120-150 Series 17" rims. If you run 265/65/17 tyres it fixes the speedo too.

Not sure about the weight rating of the springs in the kit I'm looking at, but I called them and they said they would give me 101HD kings to suit 100+ kgs to suit the bar and battery. My budget is limited to $900 which would get me bilstein struts fitted with king springs and a pair of rear extended shackels. I'm not sure if I should get the struts set for maximum lift or a setting below because of only lifting the rear about 45mm until I can afford new rear leaves and shocks. From what I calculated the front should end up 575 with the top setting and the rear about 585 which would be level. How much does resetting leaves cost and how much lift will it give?
