Rear Leaf Spring installation woes

Postby ickers11 on Sun, 03 Sep 2017 5:14 +0000

Hi everyone,

I am installing a set of original Toyota leaf springs off an 07 hilux into my 07 hilux. The old springs (very heavy tow pack) came out easily enough but I'm having a hard time putting the new ones in. The spring just wont go into the front hanger - I've had it close, close enough to see half the sleeve but it just wont budge that extra 10mm or so to get the bolt in.

Any suggestions? It looks like the bushes and sleeve could be just a touch on the long side perhaps.

If you think the sleeve is to wide you have two options.
First (I don't recommend this) you can shave back the sleeve slightly to get it in. But this is a mod so not exactly recommended.
More likely is to spread the actual housing. Decent pry bar and a good wedge you can spread the two sides.
When you do the bolts back up it will close it again.

Thanks Myralga. I'll try the pry bar technique first and see how that goes, should do the job I think.
