Comfortable 2" lift recommendations

Comfortable 2" lift recommendations

Postby Xr8tdd on Tue, 08 Aug 2017 1:49 +0000

Hi guys

Iv put a set of 265/70/17 bf's ko2 on my 2013 Toyota hilux in the last month and as expected they rubbed on a few spots. To get myself out of trouble I installed a set of 35mm strut spacers on the front struts. Other than giving me good height the ride quality is just way to stiff for my likings so I'm in search for a 2" lift that someone can recommend for softness reliability and with in budget.

I do some basic 4wding nothing to extreme and am really just needing the lift for clearance over my tires. I have no bullbar or rear canopy with draws so am under the impression that constant loads would not be nessasary as this could quite possibly make the ride stiffer.

Thanks in advance

I'd remove the strut spacers immediately if you plan on going offroad with them. There is a much higher risk of breaking a shock or CV with these installed.

You're right in saying you won't need heavy duty coils and shocks if you don't plan on carrying any extra weight.

A good place to take your ute to if you're around Sydney is Ultimate Suspension. These guys know their stuff and will fit you up with a set that would be tailored to your needs and the weight you carry.

Also, keep in mind that a suspension lift isn't going to sort out your clearance issues if you hit the bump stops offroad more often than not. You may have to do a bit of trimming.

Yer located in Perth wa. I have spoken to some local 4wd shops but feel they are all trying to sell their preferred brands and feel I'm not getting the info from them I'm really looking for hence why I thought I'd try the forums. I also had to cut my front flares and remove front mudguards but with out the lift was scrubbing on everything when turning.

Yep, time to do some trimming! The joys of bigger than factory tyres!

X3 for Ultimate. Just be wary of overall lift: stay below 50mm suspension and 25mm tyres, or you may have Insurance problems in case of an accident. Talk to Ken at Ultimate, he is an Automotive Engineer.

Since your in Perth WA id definitely give Arnie from Auotride Balcatta a call. He did my suspension setup on my Hilux and I've since recommended him to other members here who couldn't be happier.

Comfortable 2" lift recommendations

For WA I think you're already over legal limit with the tyres, they're closer to 32" which is why you need to trim. We are a nanny state here, we still refer (as far as I can determine) to VSB 14 which is 50mm total lift, inclusive of 25mm tyre lift (from 50mm bigger tyres).

X2 Autoride Arnie really did a good job on mine and when the ride was too soft on the back end he booked me back in and swapped out the springs at no charge.

also give W.A Suspensions a go in Osborn Park they seem to have a good rep

I see a lot of people have some great recommendations on who to go to speak to but what are you guys running and are you happy with the setup?

Hey mate. I have those exact tyres on my 2013 Hilux. I went down the Ultimate path and am very happy. Send a PM to Brendan, they are a forum sponsor. I'm based in S.A. and he put me in touch with their recommended local workshop to install the kit.

I also have Superpro lift align upper control arms (an option with the kit). I didn't get them initially but wish I had. The factory arms didn't have enough caster and the tyres still scraped after the suspension was installed.

I'm running FJ Cruiser OEM rims, which are +15 offset.

This pic was taken just after I picked it up from having the lift kit installed.

I see he put almost the exact same setup in yours as he did in mine[emoji3]
Had this suspension in for little over a year and done about 35k on them and has held well on countless trips and has been pushed to its limits some weekends.
I guess it's a tried and tested setup

All the best!
