Steering wheel slipped

Steering wheel slipped

Postby Critter350 on Sat, 27 May 2017 1:27 +0000

Tackling a muddy hill a couple of weeks ago, slid sideways and stopped against something with a bit of a thump. Bit of a dent in the stock steel rim, and the steering wheel is now clocked about 45° clockwise.
Yeah I know I can pull it off and recentre, but keen to know where the slip occurred.
Pulled the plates off underneath and had a go at rod ends and linkages with a pry bar.
Got the Mrs to move the wheel back and forward, only place I can see play is a tiny amount in steering rack mounts.

Any ideas?

Highly unlikely something slipped. I'd say you've bent a tie rod and or the control arm.
Probably best to get it to a suspension specialist to have it measured up.

Could have even twisted the shaft if ya really unlucky.

Drives alright. 400km last two days, on and off road. Booked in for a look tomorrow though, will post the findings.

Had a wheel alignment done today, reckons I've bent a stub axle. Like these guys....
