Adjustable Coil Overs leaves me scratching my head

Postby sharp018 on Tue, 22 Nov 2016 8:39 +0000

Hello, I have posted on the other coil over topic post however it is not really related to my worries/frustration

I had brought Profender Stage 2 Lift Kit, Which came with front Adjustable Coil Overs

At the moment the car sits nose down, But with the coil overs i have the thread is the whole shaft so im tipping if you were to adjust it its only the spring preload, And i cant really adjust it to much other wise ill get coil bind

I been searching the internet late hours lastnight watched numerous videos, Majority of them had the threaded shaft go inside or have another threaded shaft from where the strut top is which you can wind out and in to suit your ride height

Its like the only way ill get the ride height is to use strut spacers.

Honestly do not know. Any help would be great thanks :)

ALl i want to do is to be able to lift the nose enough to make it level

The adjustment is for the spring preload which alters the static ride height. If you need so much preload that you get coil bind then you need a higher rate spring.

like i mean i can adjust it up but it doesnt feel right, i can go so far with a pin punch and hammer but after a while its stiff as that to make movement requires a 24 inch pipe wrench, and fyi yes i had cleaned the threads and sprayed the s**t outta it and let it sit over night haha

Sometime removal from vehicle and Spring compressors are required to add preload. How much lift are you looking to get from the front ?

just dont like the fact of having to compress the actual spring in order to lift it, as ive said before other types have a screw out winder that will wind the whole spring down almost just like having a strut spacer in it just its adjustable. spring stays as it is no preload adjustment, becuase the more preload i put on it the more stiff and harder the driving is going to be

It won't compress the spring, it will just pull more shock shaft out. The reason it's stiff is your probably doing it with the vehicle on the ground?

I have monster rides front struts. I raised the front end. Took wheel off and adjusted using suspension tool. I still needed to cut a pipe around 400mm long to put over the tool to get leverage and I only managed to turn one notch at a time. Slowly but surely.

Try this and take it from a drive and see how it goes.

Be sure to do both sides the same
