If turning up the compression made the knock disappear then you have faulty struts, it's that simple. If your happy with the ride set at 6 and there is no noise then it's up to you weather to get them replaced or not. From my experience with them I'm yet to see anyone have the compression set that high and be happy with the ride. I'd get them replaced, as far as I know they still don't fully know what's causing the knocking, something to to with the valving I'm told. They have made changes are are happily replacing noisy unit's.

TOYZX do you know if its possible to adjust the spring preload compression ring without removing the strut? (maybe remove wheel, take load off the spring then adjust?)

And do you know the part number for the tool or where to buy one from ?

Thanks

No mate. Sorry they do need to be removed and put in a quality spring press with the correct tool to hold the strut.

Hey Luke

ARB Melbourne responded

Thank you for your email.

In regards to your enquiry, if you are able to drop in and see the guys at ARB Artarmon (Northside) to get some details from the BP51 front struts.
The guys there can start the warranty procedure regarding for approval of replacing yours front BP51 struts in your Toyota Hilux.

Kind Regards

After 8 weeks or more of waiting, ARB have finally admitted the Struts fitted in Dec 2017 were the previous version, not the Upgraded Versions.

Warranty claim now underway and hopefully fitted very soon, and make to quiet driving.

Forgive if this has been mentioned before - has anyone had their BP51s replaced under warranty?

First up, some 18 months after installation the bottom front bushes were clapped out so had them replaced.
At the same time the rear right shock was leaking oil so that was replaced under warranty also.

ARB admitted to me that the two problems were know to them (dust ingress because of poor sealing).

Three weeks ago I dropped the vehicle off at Pedders to have the front brakes upgraded, they found the two front bushes were worn out again and three of the shocks were now leaking oil.

Again all three shocks were replaced under warranty.

What bugs me is that ARB would offer no written warranty on the new shocks and advised me if there were any further problems it would be a case by case issue.

They did advise that they now had the tooling in Brisbane to do repairs themselves but I'm wondering how that's going to work, drive around with a missing shock whilst the bung one is being fixed?

As much as I think they're the ducks nut I'm pretty disappointed these problems keep occurring.

The Hilux has done just over 100,000ks but has never been thrashed on or off road.

Yep all common issues! We have also been noticing many with low gas pressures and oil in the gas side of the reservoir which isn't good! They have recently done another upgrade to the lower bearing which is looking good. It is disappointing but keep on them mate! We have a few utes, mostly ranger and bt50s that are in regularly for replacement stocks.

Thanks Toyz, unfortunately I only come to New Hilux when I'm chasing information. Might visit more often to follow this thread.

Just a thought on the knocking sound coming from the front after geting the 51's installed - took months to figure out, one of the bonnet rubber stops had come lose and wound down so the knocking was the bonnet. :)
