front end rebuild

have also posted in drivetrain

I have a 2008 sr, 2inch lift with 1 inch diff drop. 31x10.5 muddies on 15x8 sunnys. I have developed a clunk in my front end, I think its the drivers side. for the life of me I cant find what it is. I have the front end up off the ground and everything looks normal apart from when I grab the wheel (both wheel off the ground) and turn it left to right there is a clunk about mid turn. I have the a car stand under each lower suspension arm so that the suspension is holding the weight of the car like it would on the ground. so far I have replace both drive shafts and figured stuff it, the car is 8yrs old and its been a hard 8yrs especially in the early days with a lot of off roading. so I have purchased I new steering rack, upper and lower control arm bushes, new sway bar links and rubbers, new front bearings, new rotors and new brake pads. the question here is..... should I be replacing anything else while I have it all pulled down?? also doing the clutch.

Edit: your duplicate post in the drive train forum was removed. Please do not post up duplicates in various parts of the forum. Regards the mod team.

Ive got 2009 hilux and after a did a two inch lift i got a clunk when braking and turning coming from the front driver side. I got all the bolts re tighten clunk still there. I sprayed silicone over all of the bushings and the clunk disappeared so i guess one of my bushings need changing, just need to pin point which one is making the clunking noise. Btw wht diff drop are you using? I want to get the spacer style diff drop as tht is the only one available where i live

Been following various posts about the front end clunk since I bought the Lux in 2008. As soon as there is the slightest amount of rain, I get a clunk on almost every turn. Have chased and checked for years - no joy.
Last week while under the car for service, I noticed a small of rust around the front bolt of the RH LCA. This is a sure sign of not quite tight enough. I tried to nip it up - no bloody way! undo the nut - required a 600mm breaker bar and a lot of effort. Very rusty inside so cleaned it all up and re assembled with a little grease on the thread only. Now Very tight. Just have to wait and see if the clunk is still there next time it rains.

My LCA bushes were completely flogged out at 130,000km, that'd be where I'd look first.

!!!! Apart from about 3 wheel alignments in the first 50,000 and the clunk, my front end hasn't been touched until now and 284,000 still drives great and no abnormal tyre wear.

Mine has had a clunk in the front as long as I've had it (over 3 years) nobody can find it! Drive perfect aligns perfect, just an annoying clunk. Haven't checked yet but someone told me to have a look at the steering rack mounts? Apparently they are crap?

340,000 still drives great, the clunk still happens but no wear near as much since LCA tightened up. Recently had the front right tyre de-laminate and shed about 1/3 of the tread at 100kph! :o shook the crap out of everything, bent the front of the side step. The tyre did not blow just lost a big chunk of tread.

My 06 has developed a clunk in the front drivers side wheel after I backed into a column at the supermarket. I had the wheel hard over & was backing out of a car park. Crushed the front guard .
My mechanic couldn't find it but re titended all the suspension bolts. In particular the hub nut & it went away.
