slight vibration after 2" lift...

hey so basically i just got a 2" dobinson lift kit fitted by them, and ever since i have has this slight vibration down the centre when taking off, its worse if its under load.
just wondering if anyone has had this problem and knows what it could be? the guys at dobinsons said i couldnt get a perfect wheel allignemnt due to my control arms, and would need adjustable control arms to get it 100%. but i wouldnt think that wheel allignment would create vibration? im wondering did they take the tail shaft off and not mark it?

any help is appreciated, thanks

Welcome mate, please do a search before posting another topic as this has been covered before many times.

Your driveline angles have changed and you can confirm this by loading up your tray/tub to drop the back a bit which should remove vibration.

Once confirmed buy some 1 degree caster wedges for the rear springs. Problem solved

You can check the shaft yourself
The Uni should both face the same way

If you have a digital level you can check output flange then rear diff
And correct with caster wedges (1deg for 2" is normal close enough)
Another option but not legal is extended shackles in the rear

Front there are a heap options look at monster rides or similar as they sell diff drops, adjustable uca's and lca's
And underbody protection to fit the modifyed area as the stock don't always fit

two inch lift should not cause any vibration.

Start with easy-cheap solutions first.1)tyre balance 2)wheel alignment 3) what guys told you

had the same drama with my 2inch lift. 2degree caster wedges in the back from road runner off road sorted it out so its nerly perfect again.
mine was vibrating around 40-50 kays under light acceleration

still a small vibe there but its barely noticable now compared to how it was

check your rear brake line too im lucky i never ripped mine off as it was stretched to the limit when the passenger rear was hanging in the air

I had it bad at 60kmh in 4th and gearing down into 2nd.
Only a 2" lift. After rooting around with spacing centre bearing as others had said I went with 1 degree caster. Completely fixed and smooth as

Thats to give an increase of the angle between the diff and leaf spring??if thats the case isnt that angle limited by the shackle?

no the diff will rotate to fix your pinion angles and the leaf spring will stay in the same position

I prefer the snake racing ones as they bolt into the leaf pack so there is no chance of them moving but mostly because the head of locator bolt isn't shortened so you still have plenty on the head going into the diff
http://shop.snakeracing.com.au/blog/lea ... r-wedges-/

But I machine mine like this other wise the bolt is pulled at an angle and can cause premature breakage

yeah those snake racing ones look machined and a lot stronger.
the road runner ones are a cast piece altho hopefully they never crack and fall out now there clamped in there

Hi Gents,

I've been reading the thread and you gave me good ideas to consider. I'm thinking of making a 2" lift on my lux 2014 wigo.

Cheers.

Great info guys. I've just had my 15 sr5 lifted 2" and getting a slight vibration when slowing down etc. thinking it could be this issue with the caster wedges.

Stupid question, how do I know how much change there is and is there a place people recommend to get them to do it for me? Original suspension place don't seem to know much and aren't offering any ideas...

Hey guys just wondering if yous would know what is going on in my similar situation. Now i have loaded my stock rear suspension with tools in the back in getting the shakes on take off. Could the extra weight be the cause?
Thanks heaps! Really doing my head in

Not clutch shudder? Would be unlikely to be tailshaft vibration unless its sitting on the bump stops! You'll get vibration when a lift is done because the tailshaft and uni's are on too great an angle. If its on the stops it could be goin back the other way?

after reading these threads it looks like I'm another unlucky bastard who's hilux got the 'shakes' after getting lifted.

I've spent the past three months getting tyres re-balanced, wheel alignments, adjustable upper control arms, switching back to factory wheels and tyres, adding weight into the canopy, and frigging around with different sized centre bearing spacers; none of which made much difference to the vibration I'm getting through the driveline.

I'll be trying some caster wedges and will post an update afterwards.
