Upper and lower control arm bush replacement

Upper and lower control arm bush replacement

Postby 8289 on Thu, 25 Jul 2013 10:22 +0000

Hi All,

I was informed by toyota service center that my 357k km hilux need to change upper and lower control arm due to wear and tear.
but, need to change the whole arm, instead of bushes.

I dont believe it because I read this forum and others that mention about bushing replacement.

The question is :
1. what is the brand of the toyota original bushing if not toyota (since toyota did not recommend changing bushing, I believe no bush under toyota).
2. Any other good bushing brand out there apart from super pro?

Thanks for sharing the info..

The Toyota bushes would be made through one of their OEM suppliers. Getting onto them as a consumer can be difficult.

What price did they quote you for replacing the arms? I believe Toyota sell the control arm bushes separately, but it may be more cost effective (once you look at labour) to change the arms especially if they come with new ball joints already fitted.

Most aftermarket bush manufactures make replacement control arm bushes for the HIlux. e.g. Nolathane, Whiteline, SuperPro.

I prefer superpro due their NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) reduction technology. Their bushes are also backed by a lifetime warranty.

You can get the factory bushes and ball joints seperately as a service part from toyota. no need to repalce both arms unless they are damaged.

If the dealership is stating to replace the arms themselves, get them to explain exactly why and how they came to that conclusion?

Ultimate, Hilux Max,

Toyota price for arm is around AUD500. I did call few service center and asked for bush only and they said only supply arm and not bush separately.
I guess it is due labour cost higher than parts itself if change bush only, like you mention. Thats why service center do not want to do that.

But, good news is that from the survey done from net, I can get the bush and ball joint from the Toyota spare parts authorised dealers. Price varies based on sizes of bush but in total surely lower compared to changing arm @ cost quoted by service center.

Now, it is just a matter of finding the good workshop to replace it.

Hey guys didnt want to start another thread so hope its ok to jump on here. Has anyone else had issue of lower control arm ball joint rubber boot popping off at bottom ? mine did it on both sides during a rough trip up north. Have just left it but eventually grease will be out and dirt in as will as it looks shite.

Its rare but yep they do come off if a stick or something hits them. The boot isn't sold separately, you'll need a new ball joint (part# 4333009510).

A hydraulic press is required to do the job.
I might be wrong.
