Just wondering if anyone has done this yet? If so did you have any difficulty, any tips.

Theres a large circlip on the top of the balljoint itself, was this difficult to remove?

Was the BJ hard to tap out?

Cheers,

Max.

The hardest part you will have is getting the taped shaft out. Definatly buy a ball joint splitter, it'll make life a whole bunch easier.
The circlip should come off easily and the ball joint can be hit out of the lca with a hammer.
If in doubt remove the lca and mount in a vice or use a press.
A few tips: jack up under the lca, so that the ball joints and swaybar aren't twisted and loaded up. Chassis stand under chassis. Remove the 2 bolts connecting the ball joint housing to the stub axle. Then lower the jack to release the spring pressure and lower the lca. Now nothing is twisted and loaded up and if you have to you can simply remove the lower spring mount and inner pivot bolts and remove the entire arm.

When re-assembling put some antiseize on the top part of the ball joint (circlip end) that will be pressed into the housing. But do NOT put antiseize on the tapered shaft of the ball joint. This needs to be clean and dry. If you put antiseize on the tapered shaft it won't lock in properly and after a while can start to turn in the housing rather then the ball joint turning.
Loctite the 2 bolts back into the stub

Hope this all make sense. Jobs like this are 2nd nature to me and I often have trouble explaining how to do it. The apprentices hate it ;)

Cheers andy.

had it all apart last night having a look, did already all you said, disconnected the lower arm from the stub axle and had it all hanging free somewhat with a jack below it.

might give it a nother go later on.

I ended up using a ball joint seperating tool to apply pressure to it, then a couple hard hits to the side of the braket with a hammer and it came apart.

How did you guys go about re-installing the new lower ball joints? Does the splitter work to put it back in or do they drop in fairly easily?

In the LCA or the spindle mount?

On the spindle mount they simply drop in and held in place with a nut. On the LCA, they are press-fit so you'll need a press of some type. The removal tools usually have a reverse function otherwise you'll need a vice or something similar.
