Tried searching but dont think its been posted before, Has anyone ever thought of Using the electric sway bar diconnect out a Jeep Rubicon, And Modifying it to suit a hilux Swaybar. Anyone know if its possible? If i could find one locally cheap id have a crack at it.

Link to a Swaybar on Ebay in the Us with the Electronic Disconnect.

Other problem would be if the motor would fit under the front of a Lux.

Have found a few other sites were people have thought of it but not tried.

Maybe easier to just remove completely.

pretty cool if it would work but imo opinion just another thing to f$@#&% up and its not hard to just use the pinned disconnects

The pinned diconnects only let it go so far dont they? I'll probably just get heavier springs in the front and take the sway bar off.

That looks like a pretty good idea im guessing you would need to modify the bashplate to get it under the front of a hilux though

they keep it captive yes...but they still allow alot more independance in the front end...i reckon we need a sway bar in the front of our luxs when wheeling coz ive been in some situations on funny angles where i wished the swaybar wasnt unpinned, when theres no swaybar active the body rolls ALOT more, both on and offroad

If you put heavier springs in the front without sway bars it will flex less than with soft springs and sway bars. Also it will be a rough ride.

Cheers,

Chris.

Yeah i know what your saying, I'd love to get a hold of one of the jeep disconnects and see if it can be done it'd be good to be able to switch it on and off when you want.

With the rekon struts and the sliding swaybar links disconnected on the road you cannot even tell the difference.

so much so that Im going to remove my swaybar at some stage this year and make an even more high clearance bashplate to suit.

Its not so much to do with the spring but the valving on the shocks.

with my rpevious suspension kit (even it was pulling 9.25" of travel) with the swaybar off you could feel the boatiness on the front end round corners.......

different kits will feel and perform differently...I can only comment on my experiences. Trial and error.

Even the current ones like I mentioned work well without the swaybar.

no matter what valving is in the shocks it wont stop the offroad rolly poly im talking about...onroad, yer sure...but im talking bout when you decending down certain things you dont want the front to work super independantly coz it shifts the weight far too much...IFS without longarm is just never gonna meet the needs of every situation im thinking

To many moving parts. Yes something else to break. Also you would have to mod the bash plate and looks like lose a lot of clearance. you may even have to re route the power steering line that runs in that same area. The ones with the disconnect look to be the go, but I have no experience with this.

I don't run a sway bar at all anymore. The rekon's handle beautifully.

some people may find this handy?? I know its off a zuk but the principle is the same and i can imagine it would be a damn site quieter than a sliding droplink??

A heads up. I never ran a sway bar in my last tuck either and the extra travel was good but my mate in his Patrol just got fined. The first thing that stood out to the cops was no sway bar, then they went to town on him..I think a quick release sounds brilliant!

Didn't the GQ (ish) patrols have a cable operated sway bay disconnect (might have only been rear?) Could that be modified to fit hilux front?

Yes they did but style wouldn't work on the hilux as the lose sway bar would destroy the CV/CV boot. The cheapest option is the pin through the bolt style which is described on this forum somewhere. I have also played with the idea of something like this but haven't got the time... https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/sway-b ... ect.17113/
