I have a mate who can get me the full kit for about $1000 not installed of course. Will these shocks stand upto some abuse as I am thinking of doing the simpson next year. Or should I look at the TD shocks or bilstein? I am only going for the 2 inch lift.

Has anyone ever popped a axle out with a 2 inch lift? One suspension store told me he has had people do it with just a 2 inch lift and reccomended a diff drop installed which I don't really wanna. I would only put it in for the cv boots rubbing.

I hope I've done the right thing here... I bought Dobbinson extra heavy duty front coils - C59-302, 50-100kg of accessories. With all heavy accessories up the front such as deluxe bull bar, winch, spotties and dual batteries. Dobbinson claim them to provide 50mm of lift. The Bilstein struts already have the three grooves. I want to try and gain that 50mm lift without making my front end too hard. Anyone had this combo of spring/shock before be able to advise which ring I should place the circlip top, middle or bottom with the extra heavy duty springs? As their heavy springs, I'm unsure I'll gain any additional height with them by moving the circlip up to the top notch, rather just make my front end like a rock if i attempt it.

Buggered if I'll attempt to fit them, spring compressors for these are too expensive and the set I have is only for passenger cars .

I'm sick of saying springs already! I'm outta here... boing!

19.7 with the powder coating mate. So I'd say 19mm. They are a much darker green than in my shed photos. Why they chose an ugly color I don't know. The rears in that photo are 3+3 and I had to return them for 4+3 280kg to GVM as they sent the wrong ones.

My other concern is but not relevant to my original question is these very heavy front springs may compress the lower rubber strut bushings and cause binding of the strut eye against the wishbone as well as making the eye work off center. I have already spoken to ultimate about fitting stiffer bushings, but unsure if trying to correct this issue would improve it or just have the shock take sharper blows to it's internal workings and strut eye welds. I was just going to see how they go over time and keep an eye on it. Bilstein in Brisbane are unaware of welds braking, but are only aware of 18mm wire dia being used in most cases.

regardless of how heavy the springs are you have the load on the lower strut bushes will be determined by the sprung weight they are supporting.
ie load on the spring.

got a quote today from a 4wd mob for a 2 inch lift and they use DOBINSONS gear.they say its great but obviously they will wen there trying to sell it to me, just wondering if any1 has it fitted or heard anything about it?
any help would be great.

Yep. It sagged. Now got the 4" dobinsons.. so far so good.

do alot of dobinsons gear up here in brisvegas at bremer 4by4.only ever get good feedback from those that have changed to it.mainly 2 & 3''`gear,try to stay away from anything bigger as qld tpt & govt cash collecters[police] tend to pick on the overly lifted trucks.

Now Im back on a PC let me explain. The 3" spring I had where great first up and the ride is excellent. Problem was they just didnt handle the abuse I dished out. For general driving and limited 4x4 work I think they would be great. May also have just been a bad batch that I got. The 4" are going well so far, lift is a little higher than Id like with a 790 brow height (Bottom of Rim to top of wheel arch). So I hope they settle to 780...

I also have a set of King 101HHD springs sitting at home that will go on when these ones wear out... Tough Dog shocks are still working well and Im impressed with them.

So now to get the rear adjusted upwards to compensate for the extra lift in the front... Never Ends..

I have heard of some issues with Tough Dog so i am looking at dobinsons now or bilstein

does anyone know if all these springs sag as much as each other ?

I want 50 mm lift but i read a post where a guy had 65 mm lift kits that sagged 30 mm ??

Just go with the ultimate setup. Heaps of blokes on here gone that way all are happy. They do a kit to suit your setup, the shocks are rebuildable, the springs are set for your weight and use and don't sag and if anything does go a miss they look after you. And it will cost about $1900 delivered. Problem solved.

Did the Simpson this year. Smashed it, and got up the intermediate track on big red. Nothing but good things to say about the Dobinson's. Had them in at least 20 000km. The fella who owned my rig before me had them put in. In saying that, i busted the front left strut yesterday when chasing bacon down a fence line. My fault, not the suspension. will be putting Dobinson back in.

I have Dobinson's coils in the front, very impressed with them.
They get used very hard, to date they have not overly sagged (initial settle in period, is normal).
Rate them highly.
