Rekon coilover height adjustment

Postby Tazlar on Sun, 21 Apr 2013 4:43 +0000

Gday guy's, I have just put my rekon kit in and having trouble adjusting the height on the coilovers. When i got them they were set at 2" lift or something i think, but just couldnt get them in as they were just so long, so i adjusted them right down to put them in, and thought i could just adjust them back up once in. So everything is together and drivable again, i just want to adjust it up now. Ive jacked it up and have been using the C clamps or whatever they are but they don't wanna budge. I just wanna know if I'm doing this right or am i wasting my time? So it's jacked up on the front crossmember so the suspension droops down and has no pressure on it and trying to turn the nuts on the coilovers with the C-clamps..

I'm hoping i don't get slammed for this but i have done a search and found some info, but i just cant seem to get it working, am i doing something wrong? are they spose to be this hard to turn? I did see on one search a guy on this forum uses a screwdriver and hammer to turn them so thats my next option haha any help will be appreciated

Thanks guys

I dont run these, but if they use 2 rings at the height adjuster crack the bottom ring first and lossen it then try and wind the height up. Just a thought

 did he also ask for a warranty claim cos they were stuffed?

Jack the cross member till wheels are just touching ground, crack the locking ring anti clockwise, if you have the short C spanner put a 200mm piece of pipe on the handle and wind the adjusting nut up. You will only get a small part of a turn for each notch, It takes a bit of time and muscle, and I also used a squirt of WD40. Just keep at it , you'll get there. Tighten up the lock ring when you got it to the height you want.
The older I get the better I was

I adjusted mine enough to wear out the c-spanners they provided. Not very good steel in them. In the end I had to use a stillson on them. They don't look too pretty now but at least I got them to adjust. :? Didn't use WD40.

haha i thought i was the only one with this problem yeah mine to have gone stiff

at the moment i sprayed a heap of wd40, threw some bicarp soda on it and white vinigar, shes sizzling away eating the dirt and crap on the threads

so hopefully by tomorrow when i go to do it should turn fairly easy :)

Old thread but tryed adjusting mine on the weekend to no avail spayed plenty of penetrating oil and left overnight didn't help, trying to loosen them (thought that would be easier then clean thread higher to adjust) managed to brake the c spanner sent with them.
Now the nuts are getting damaged and can't get propper purchase on a couple of spots.
Was going to remove shock and use hammer and chisel to remove and then replace with new ones but monster rides wants $40 per nut which to me seems expensive don't suppose any has some lying around our knows of another place to get them from?
P.S Yes the car was jacked up and locking nuts undone.

I had the same issue couldn't adjust mine. Ended up pulling them out and using a heat gun very carefully on the nuts and they loosened off. I also wiped the threads with a special cream stuff that should stop the corrosion locking them back in

I drowned them in Inox and used a pipe on the end of each spanner.

If you don't care for scratching the nuts get a set of pipe wrenches. I brought 500mm ones did the job piece of p!$$

Thanks for the many reply's I'll leave it for a while until I can leave the car jacked up and don't need it so if I have to I can remove them and just take them somewhere.
