2008 hilux lift kits

Hi Guys

i have a 2008 sr hilux and am looking at putting a lift kit into it

it will mainly be for a little beach work and some mild off road use

i am looking at the 3 inch lift kit that comes with the diff drop and today i was told i would also need to do upper control arms. is this correct

the guy i was speaking to was telling me i should get a 2 inch suspension lift and then do a 2 inch body lift and get it mod plated

any help would be greatly appreciated
