What Diameter Tyre Do I Want

G'Day All,

I have finished my Suspension lift and I am starting to think about tyres do I get.

I current have a set of 225/75/16 BFG AT's but I am think about getting something bigger.

What are mot people running 31's or 32's, the easiest option for me is to fit 235/85/16's (32") as they fit on the standard SR steelies or do I buy a set of Sunraises and get either 31/10.5.15 or 245/75/16 (31").

I have the V6 auto and I tested a set of 235/85/16 on the back, the car has more than enough power for the bigger tyres but the problem is that it throws the speedo out by about 10%. This is a big error in the speedo.

To many decisions!!!!!!!!!

Hey Stoney

My 2cents, 31 10.5 R15 are a very common size you want have any trouble find them, this could make them a good option. Also the speedo correction I had worked well after playing around with it for a while to get it right, checked with GPS.

Your right about the V6 it will turn the tyres no prob.

Also we need pics??? 8-)

Dan,

How's Europe? I saw you old car around Kirrawee the other day.

Did you have the speedo correction unit from Mark's Adaptors http://www.marks4wd.com/products/tyre_match_box/speedo-correction.html

I know what you are saying about with the 31's, I have a feeling that the 235's are very common as well.

I not going to take any pics yet because it still looks like any normal garden Varity Hilux, I will wait until I get more done.

Hi StoneySR05

Nobody that I could find make a 15x7 sunraiser rim. 16x7 are available. To fit 31/10.5-15's you will have to buy mags or SR5 rims

WhackyWombat,

I have heard that about the 15x7 sunnraisers, the 16x7 are not really that cheap I think about $110 per rim. Maybe I should just get the 235's that way I don't need to worry about the rims I will just need to get the speedo correction box, the box is $175. I have two sets of standard SR steelies there is a place near me where you can buy them for $25 per rim. Another good thing about the 235’s is that they will sit under the guards without the need for flares.

Dan,

Did the speedo correction unit also change the odometer to read the correct km's travelled when you were running the bigger tyres?

Thanks
Carl

Hey Stoney
Could you let me know the place selling the rims. I'm chasing a second spare. Would they have rim & tyre or just rims.
Thanks WW

If you do stick to the 235/75R16 tyres, they are pretty much the same size (within a few mm) as the old 7.5x16 that every cruiser on split rims out bush has run. Makes getting replacements a lot easier on those outback trips.
