Any body running 33/10.5/15 ?

Need something to get you rolling?

Any body running 33/10.5/15 ?

Postby Horse on Fri, 05 Feb 2010 5:24 +0000

Just wondering if anyone was running 33/10.5/15 on sr5 alloys? BF goodrich have this size in both all terrains and muddies
thought it might be a option rather than having to change rims to run 33's.

yep...we gotta a member on here running 33/10.5x15 KM2...DLUX i think it is....

you should be able to run them with a 2,5" lift and the new dynamic 15x7 steelies in +10 offset...would be a great setup IMO

you'll have more luck coz the 33/10.5x15 km2's measure at 32.8 rather than 33.2 - 33.5"

Will the SR5 alloys allow these to fit ? If i had to buy rims for them to fit would rather get 16" rims for more tyre option ,but
would like to stay with the SR5 rims for now.

Well, 31x10.5's fit but they finish about level with the UCA and you will be an inch higher. I think You'd just get away with it, but Max knows more about offsets than I do. It's been nearly 2 monts since I went to 16" RIms

I wouldnt recommend them on factory sr5 rims unless you have aftermarket upper control arms...otherwis they will rub....

maybe try some spacers...but they are illegal...then again so is the tyre diamter so who cares

Cheers boys
Sound better to go with larger rims then. Thought it may have been a good option $ wise, but if i had to change the UCA
or use spacers would rather spend the money on 16" rims.
Thanks

Get a second hand set of stock 16s from someone who has foolishly changed for fat tyres, Then run 235 85 16's once again they are illegal same as your 33's but are a much better offroad tyre especially for sand. They are roughly 30mm narrower hence not pushing as much sand whilest retaining a very good rolling circumference of 2531mm as appossed to the 33's 2639mm.
I am running the 235s and they fit under a standard height vehicle with no problems on stock steels.
Any larger than this and you will loose too much power.
I recently climbed a sand dune running 42psi front a 38psi rear which my 100 series mate had to let his 265's down to 20psi to climb the same.

Good luck

x2 on the 235/85/16 mate these are what i had for daily's they're great, a good size as it keeps the revs down on the highway yet not to fat so your not pushing a shit load of rubber down the road/across the sand. cheap too. just look like stocko's on the original truck if you go lifting it seriously.

my 2 cents.

How can you compare a 235 tyre being better for sand when you need flotation and tyre width?

I havent driven on sand personally, I admit, but every one swears by wide tyres for sand driving...narrow tyres would just dig in and bury your vehicle.

i agree with floatation mmaaxx, however from my experience driving on sand, and i've done it a fair bit in the lux and previous cruisers of mine, i have swapped from the notion of the fatties on sand, yes they work but id prefer to have the taller tyre say a 235/85/16 on the sand than the 31/10.5/15, a bit taller but thinner tyre will still give you a bigger footprint and thus more floatation and less wall of sand pushed infront of the tyre. i was a convert after a mate of ours in a troopy did this to us all over the shop on fraser the first time we went. unless of course you go to a very wide tyre of the same hight then yes you shall have more floatation however you will be pushing half the beach! due to the fact that as you roll your front tyres build up a wall of sand but do not use an aggressive pattern say a mudder as you will drop to your diffs very easily!! - a long foot print works better than a wide one, think kinda like a tank track, the only exception to this principal is a paddle tyre like on a sand rail, as the paddle uses the wall of sand infront of the tyre to its advantage.

i am talking from what i have experienced, i love a 235/85/16 with a non agressive tread patten or even a road pattern for the beach/ road - remember in sand you sink quick so the higher the better to keep the diffs out of the kitty litter, and the other advantage of a taller tyre is that with larger side walls you may run a lower pressure hence "more bag for your buck." and i think that a 255/85/16 would be an even better example, or said 33/10.5/15's

just my 2 cents.

Wide tyres for flotation in sand.

Narrow tyres for hard core mud.

This is what I have experienced and learned the hard way.

Was running 32x11.5x15 Bridgestone mud duelers in my old Isuzu Bighorn shortie and I was truly stuck in the sticky mud.

Then comes a cheeky bastard in a Suzuki Sierra SJ413 with a Toyota 4AG engine running on skinny bias ply 7.00 x 15 tyres.

He breezed through.........

Cheers

just bumping this thread back up for those interested -

thought id share some first hand info with ya that i know your gonna appreciate....

DLUX swung past my place this evening (with some jim beam blacks that went down a treat) and i sussed out his setup.....

he has "just" abit less lift than me......i gauged that by the spaces between the cv inner boots compared to mine. so id say he has very close to 3" as a referennce for you all....

he is running factory sr5 mags and bfg km2's in 33/10.5x15.....OD is 32.8 x 10.5 on a 15x8.5 rim going by the bfg website.....on 15x7's i guess theyd be sitting exacxtly at 33" and bout 10.2 due to the narrower rim.

i turned his steering full lock and there was 10-12mm clearance at the closest point to the UCA........and more if you measure down to the sidewall.....this space was enough to fit a finger in between comfortably.....now by closest point to UCA this is with the wheels at full steering lock.

at the rear of the guard there was heaps of room to the mount because of the tyre being so tucked in on a factory offset.

on one side of the hilux, there was "just" a extremely slight rub mark on the chassis rail itself that has taken some paint off.....nothing to really worry bout for most wheelin people do.

hope that helps and id definitely recommend this setup to anyone.......you save on the cost of new wheels so you may aswell spend it on decent tyres.
