To keep this short....

Maxxis 980 AT

absolute shittt tyre on wet roads , they spin everywhere.

not brilliant on dry roads i rate them 75 %

fine on sand around 14 PSI

not very good on mud - as expected.

got 50,000 k out of them and i push it screaming sideways through corners most of the time then push it to 99.999% under brakes.

265 / 70 / 16 , their diameter is 773 mm and my speedo is bang on accurate

50 mm lift .

king 16 x 8 + 20 rims

just put 3000 km on Hankook Dynapro muddies M/T RT03

best 4WD tyre i ever had , excellent on wet roads , they outperform maxxis 980 , KM2 , Coopers , BFG A/T , faultless on mud and rock and very very quiet , they are very predictable and controllable when drifting sideways through corners on asphalt , and same on loose gravel roads.

Hankook RT03 , wet grip on asphalt : 7.5/10
Maxxis 980 , KM2 , BFG - wet grip on asphalt 3.5 /10

Its early days yet , i dont know if the above performance will last all through their life or if it will deteriorate as i stack the k's on.

very happy here. + + + + +

Hey everyone, does anyone have any experience with lanvigator tyres? There is a set going for dirt cheap but I'm a little bit hesitant to buy a cheaper tyre as I'm driving across the country in September and don't want to be let down, pun intended. In your experience is it worth spending the extra money on a good set of tyres? Or am I just paying for a fancy brand name and nothing else?

Thanks

TYRE SIZE. 245/75/r16

TYPE. Bridgestone 697

SUSPENSION LIFT. Standard suspension

RIM SIZE. 16x7 ROH trak 2 Offset +30

WEAR, PERFORMANCE ON and OFF ROAD

Did 65000km on these tyres and probably had another 5000km left before I changed them. These tyres were put on for a 3 month trip across the top end which was mostly dirt roads and they performed flawlessly. The onroad performance was far better than the Bridgestone HT840's that came on the car. These tyres were used in everything except mud and snow. Very happy with the tyres performance.

BRAND. Cooper

TYRE SIZE. 265/65R 17

TYPE. ST-Maxx

SUSPENSION LIFT. 50mm OME

RIM SIZE. 17x8 CSA Raptor +25

WEAR, PERFORMANCE ON and OFF ROAD

Just under 40K not much wear. I reckon they'll last 80k at least!
Have become quite noisy though. Good in sand and gravel tracks. Racing slicks in mud!
Relatively good on road in dry and wet.
Initially had issues with the tyres feathering on the edges (alignment was not out) however that seems to have settled down now.

BRAND. ProComp X-Terrain

TYRE SIZE. 285/75R16 (claimed actual sizing is 33.1 inches x 11.3 inches, but I haven't measured them)

TYPE. Directional Mud Terrain

SUSPENSION LIFT. 2" Lift, Ironman Heavy duty

RIM SIZE. 16x8 '0' offset black Gecko Steel rims

WEAR, PERFORMANCE ON and OFF ROAD

Wear- got 70,000km on my last vehicle, currently have 45,000km on this set, two are down by half, two are significantly lower due to worn bushes in my control arms that took a while to diagnose and fix).

On-Road - Exceptionally good grip in wet or dry, except when you get down to about the last 10%, they start to become slippery then. Noise-wise they are comparable to BFG KM2's. From both mine and my two friends that run these tyres on their 75 series utes, we have found that they are always easy to balance, requiring minimal weighting.

Off-Road - Their off-road performance was first brought to my attention when they dominated in the original W.E.Rock Australia series. In the 8 or so yrs my friends and I have been running them, I have yet to see them be outperformed on any surface, they handle very low pressures well, wrap around rocks with ease, clear sticky clay mud without issue, and they also float well on the sands of Stockton (even on dry windy days). I have never seen any chipping in the blocks, have never received any damage, sidewall or tread.

They are available in an XTC compound (sticky treads) direct from the US if used on a comp vehicle.

The only real downside to these tyres is that they're expensive and quite hard to source, nobody really stocks them in Australia, so they are usually a special order item.

I'm looking at ordering some 275 65 r17 big all terrain ko2's for my 2013 sr5. I'm just wondering if anyone has run them on the standard sr5 rims, if so how much clearance between tire and uca?

In the market for some new tyres. I've got the older Mickey Thompson ATZ 4 Ribs and am looking at the newer ATZ P3's they do. Does anyone have anymore reviews on these?

At the moment it's a toss up between these and the BFG Ko2s, however I've heard too much bad about the the Ko2s. Especially balance issues.

Currently have the Kumho MT51 fitted to my Prado 120. Have travelled approximately 12000km thus far and really happy. Very slight hum for a muddie (aggressive all terrain in my opinion) at 100kmh. No balance issues
Paid $295 per tyre at K-Mart tyre and auto. Ring around and prices and KMart will beat it.

I have just driven on wet bitumen after a week of owning an SR hilux 08 and on a hill start at the lights I spun the wheels in first and second and stayed stationary. I then put in high 4 and off she went.

Is it the tires ?

What can fix this?

I have to update this because I went to replace the two X-Terrains that were scrubbed out by worn suspension components and found out they are no longer being made :(

So I've gone for the next best thing, the new MT made on the same carcass as the X-Terrain.

BRAND. ProComp Xtreme MT2

TYRE SIZE. 285/75R16, same claimed size as X-Terrain, but in reality slightly larger, as I had to do extra clearance work when I first took them off road

TYPE. Mud Terrain

SUSPENSION LIFT. 2" Lift, Ironman Heavy duty

RIM SIZE. 16x8 '0' offset black Gecko Steel rims

WEAR, PERFORMANCE ON and OFF ROAD

Wear- Unknown, these are a new release, a friend of mine has been running these for a while in 32" size, but they're still too new to know how they'll last, or if they get to a certain point and become useless, like BFG AT's

On-Road - Exceptionally good grip in wet or dry, not quite as good under braking as the X-Terrains were, they don't slide, but they do squirm a bit like most MT's do.

Off-Road - so far seems to be excellent, although they've only been on rock & clay so far, no deep mud, no sand, no snow, so I can't report on their full abilities yet. They do however mould around rocks as well as the X-Terrains (which was expected, as they're built the same way).

They are available in an XTC compound (sticky treads) direct from the US if used on a comp vehicle.

Much easier to source than X-Terrains, and quite a bit cheaper too ($370ea compared to $410ea).

The tyre fitter confirmed that the tyres were quite well balanced and would require minimal weighting, however this time I opted for ceramic balance beads.

I was hoping someone could offer some advice...

After months of negotiations I have finally won the argument with the missus and will be lifting the suspension and fitting new rubber to my 2010 SR. Now the dilemma I have is do I go for the 265/75r16 or 265/70r16? the thing that concerns me is the reported loss of power and fuel consumption with the 265/75's or will it be pretty negligible between the two sizes? also does anyone have photos of their lux with the 265/70r16 with at 2" lift that they can share?

PS: I apologise if this is in the wrong place I was just at a loss as to where to post this... if so mods please move

Cheers

Unless towing a heavy van or trailer regularly you'd massively regret not getting the larger tyre profile !

You do notice a minor loss of acceleration and braking going up one size but you soon forget about it. You would never forget about the weeny tyres - every time your look at it - if you stick with the stock size with your lift !

Have look thru a few build threads theres dozens of ute on 32s. Power loss and fuel consumption between those two sizes would hardly be measurable! Go big or go home I say[WINKING FACE]. What offset rims do you have? 265s run really really close to the uca on factory offset(pos30). Also ya may want to look into some flares.
