I went from 205R16C to 265/75R16(*8) on positive twenties with a two inch lift. However, I also chucked in SuperPro Lift Align Control Arms and 160*40 Utemart flares. I also got a speedometer corrector as a precautionary measure.

I don't know if the control arms were necessary (probably not) but I chucked them on for peace of mind. Never had an issue with the tyres rubbing or anything like that (that I know of). You definitely lose power and suffer in fuel consumption but I don't regret the move. The vehicle's also my daily driver (commute to and from work - an hour and thirty minutes every day) with a lot of driving on the weekend.

You'll suffer off the lights and you'll need to down-shift (if you're a manual driver) on some hills. I personally don't mind but you may. To be honest, the 'Lux drives just as I'd expect from a utility vehicle with such modifications. A differential re-gear can set things right though.

In regards to fuel consumption, I think the last time I got the warning light was at 650km (stock tank). I regularly fill up at ~630km, but you could probably push 700km out of a tank.

Couldn't get a good picture but the pos. twenty offset and 40mm flares (+10mm from stock) are a good pairing. The tyres (aggressive all-terrain so there's a chunky sidewall) tuck in well - there's probably just a bit of flare over the tyre.

creaky wrote:You do notice a minor loss of acceleration and braking going up one size but you soon forget about it. You would never forget about the weeny tyres - every time your look at it - if you stick with the stock size with your lift !

And this  Even on stock suspension with 205R16C, the first time I brought the 'Lux to a mechanic for rego. they told me to get rid of the pizza cutters.

BRAND. BF Goodrich

TYRE SIZE. 275/70/17

TYPE. All Terrain

SUSPENSION LIFT. OME 2"

RIM SIZE. MT Sidebiter II 17x9 offset is 0

WEAR and PERFORMANCE ON + OFF ROAD
Just fitted them yesterday so no idea of wear yet but they handle nicely, feels much more like a big truck now rather than a mini (coming from 265/65/17 on stock hilux wheels) however rubs galore on front bumper and inner wheel wheel liner. I had to cut a bit of bumper but it still touches when at full lock. Heat gun melted and reshaped the fender liner as well for additional clearance but still touches at lock under compression :(

I know it's not quite the intention for this topic however I thought the most appropriate place to ask about a particular tyre.. Monsta Terrain Gripper - has anyone or anyone you know of fitted these tyres and if so what experience did you find? They look the goods, caught my attention on another ute down the street so I looked them up, excellent value at the price so long as they hold up on and off road. There's just not too much in the way of user reviews.

Yeah I've seen them around on pimped ranger mall crawlers but I've never seen them offroad.

They don't seem to be that cheap either when you can get Toyo M/T for a similar or cheaper price.

Given they are new to the market and a basic web search can't reveal much about them, I'm going to watch this space for now.
I might be wrong.

Pretty sure it was a ranger they were on too.. :D Saw them for $185 fitted and more aggressive looking AT pattern is what got me thinking. As much as i would love a set of MT's again, if they are noisy like my last experience it will do my head in!

I have a standard 2014 SR dually and want to upgrade the standard wheels to ROH Trak 2's.

Keen to hear what size, offset and tyre combos people have fun on their 2014 SR without going outside the guard. I have not got a lift.

2015 dual cab N70.

BRAND. BFG KM2

TYRE SIZE. 265/75/16

TYPE. Mud

SUSPENSION LIFT. Ultimate's 2". HD coils HD leaf pack for weight.

RIM SIZE. 16 x 8 Dynamic round hole steelies in a 0 offset - yes, these fit and clear the bigger calipers.

WEAR and PERFORMANCE ON + OFF ROAD - Done 17,000k's so far. Heaps of tread left, I'd say 80% easily. Been through all types of terrain except snow and sand so far and these have been awesome. Play around to find the right pressure. I run 40psi on road, around 18-25 off depending on terrain. Popped a bead on my last outing, but it was copping a flogging on 18 psi at the time so not unexpected. On road performance is great, they are not too loud but I also have a muffler delete pipe. :P As far as on road handling in heavy rain, I was expecting a bit of slippage, but I was honestly surprised how good they were in the wet. I made sure to get these from an official distributor so that I didn't end up with a faster wearing parallel import - which I have been told are of a different compound and not designed for our climate.

As far as making them fit, I made sure to get the tyres BEFORE the lift got installed. ;) Had the castor moved forwards a bit and removed the mud flaps. It scrubbed on the ARB guard underneath the washer bottle under full compression and full lock so I removed it  . No dramas really, no cutting required. Didn't have to flatten pinch weld or trim body mount. Doesn't rub on control arm due to offset.

Pretty happy with them so far. 33's will be my next size up.

EDIT: Now done 35k on them. I'd say about 50% tread left. They seem to be a pretty hard compound compared to other muddies. Offroading, they're still ok to work with provided you run the right pressure. Managed to spin them in 3rd on a slight incline recently in the wet... They're still going OK but road grip in the wet I have noticed has decreased a fair bit and seems to be getting progressively worse. No dramas at all when dry. Not unexpected and not really an issue if you don't like the loud pedal as much as I do. I'm looking at the Trail Grapplers for my next set, which seem to be a better compound for offroad.

BRAND. Cooper AT3's

TYRE SIZE. 265/70/17

TYPE. All terrain

SUSPENSION LIFT. No

RIM SIZE. 17x8

WEAR, PERFORMANCE ON and OFF ROAD. Only just had these fitted the other day So I can't comment on wear.

I have been finding it quite hard to get definitive answers as to what size wheel/tyre combinations will/won't scrub with/without a lift. So for the benefit of anyone else with the same rig as mine I can confirm on a 2014/15 Hilux dual cab with NO lift or caster adjustment on the front that 265/70/17's on 17x8's with +30 offset don't rub.

Cheers,

SLL

Gday all. Ive done a fair bit of reading and searching but there seems to be differring views. I have a 2010 4x4 SR dual cab with stock steel wheels. I'm currently running BFG A/T Ko2s but they're close to EOL after 60,000km and i blew one last week (it had a pretty deep cut in the sidewall that happened on Cape York, so it was only a matter of time). They're also not great on wet bitumen.

Anyway, I'm looking at going slightly bigger to 245/75/r16s or 235/85/r16s. Ive got a 2" lift and no flares. So my main questions are:

1. Some people say that fitting 245s to the stock 16x6 steelies isn't a great idea. Thoughts on that?
2. Will both sizes fit imside the guards ok without flares?

Cheers

BRAND. Falken Wildpeak AT3W

TYRE SIZE. 265/65/17

TYPE. All terrain

SUSPENSION LIFT. Ultimate 2in

RIM SIZE. 17x7.5

WEAR, PERFORMANCE ON and OFF ROAD. I am really impressed with these tyres. I got them for $170 each after reading lots of good things over on tacomaworld. Coming from BFG KO, KM2 and currently a set Falken Wildpeak M/Ts, the A/T Falkens are awesome. Very well mannered on road, good in the wet and just cruised the full length the Ingeegoodbee Track in Vic without a chip or cut in the rubber.

Nothing yet, mate. I really want to go to 245s or 255s but if it means I need to buy rims too, I'm not sure it's worth the outlay. I'll let you know if/when I make a decision.

I would never buy another maxis tyre just because of the garbage compound in wet conditions they slide like a bucket of grease.

You will need to leave a huge safety gap in front when driving on wet roads.

There are other brands of tyre with 200 % better grip in the wet.

BRAND. ProComp Xtreme Mud Terrain (MT/2)

TYRE SIZE. 285/75R16

TYPE. MT

SUSPENSION LIFT. 2" lift, Ironman shocks & Springs

RIM SIZE. Gecko Steel 16x8 0 Offset

WEAR and PERFORMANCE ON + OFF ROAD
Ok, so I have to say I was a huge ProComp fan, I've run X-Terrains since I first saw them dominate at W.E.Rock many years ago, I was really disappointed to find out they were discontinued as I'd never used a better tyre.
So the next option in line was the XMT, for the same stated size, this tyre is taller than the X-Terrain (had to do more clearance work). The XMT is a fairly noisy tread on the road, with reasonable grip in the wet, good handling in the dry. I have used balance beads this time around, so can't say how well they would have balanced on weights.

Off Road they had good grip on rocks, a very strong, flexible carcass, the shoulder lugs work well in ruts, holding nicely to whichever line i chose, they worked very well on sand, average performance in thick clay mud.

However...

I don't know what they have done with the compound, if it is a mixed compound or what, but I now have approx 60,000km on the tyres, I have not yet reached the wear indicators, but the performance has changed completely, they now chirp on quick take-offs, they are awful on wet bitumen to the point that in the first rain after a dry spell I can't even use first gear because of the lack of traction, they still flex well off road, but the tread just doesn't grip.
I don't know if this is isolated to my set, I have a mate running them on his extra cab Hilux, so I'll see how his go when they wear to the same point, but as it stands I will not be running them again.

TYRE FITMENT & PERFORMANCE SURVEY. (Tyre bible Template)

Postby Critter350 on Tue, 15 Oct 2019 7:10 +0000

Tyres: Ultima M/T 31.5 10.5 15
Rims: Kings steel (looks like sunnies) 15x7 unknown offset

Never holed or patched, have run them down at 8 psi on soft sand, regularly run 11-12psi on the beach.
Noise wasn’t bad when new, but was definitely getting loud and adding vibration to the steering by the time they were replaced.

33k’s our of the tyres and sold them on as 30% remaining.
