I've done about 17,000km on MTZ, approximately 60-70%tread left. Fair portion of this is highway and putting around town. Held up very well in mud compared to mates KM2s, few chunks out of treads from trying to get traction in rocks. Moderate road noise, no worse than other MTs. Dad has 285 MTZ on cruiser a lot more off road work done approx 50thou with 10-15% remaining. We said we would get them again if right price.

I have 265/70-17 BFG KM2

I purchased 6 new ones before a big trip, Sydney-Cape York-Darwin-Kimberley gibb river-Broome-Tanami desert-Alice-Syd and many places around and in between. We had not one puncture and they handled every terrain with ease, from 12psi super soft sand, corrugations from hell(oh jeez I sound like a campground wanker), 40psi 130KPH zones in the NT, Gibb River road rocks, mud, you name it we had it.
The trip was 22 200 Kms

When we returned we had two tyres about 60% that where pretty cut up, the damage to these two occurred when they where on the rear and probably too much air and driving too fast for the terrain. They still hold air no problem, they are still good spares.

The other 4 returned home in reasonably good nick with about 55% tread, they looked a bit used and abused but now after 10000Km around town all the tread blocks are square again and they look in A1 condition, now about 45%

I would definitely buy these tyres again, although I think success with your tyres on a trip like that is:
33% The tyre quality
33% Treating them right, pressures speed rotation etc.
33% Luck
1% Voodoo

33/10.5/16 Silverstone Extreme Mt's/ Gu patrol wheels

I have been running these for about 3mths now, upgrading from 245/75/16 KM 2's.
They are outstanding on mud-red clay-rocks etc.
On rocks you can hear the massive side lugs gripping the rocks!

They are a extremely loud tyre on the road and at around 50km they have a drone that drives you crazy
If the black top is wet you need to drive with caution as it's like driving on ice!

I'm very happy with them off road! and to get them to fit is just 2inch lift and wheel alignment :D

I only run these on 4x4 trips and still run the KM'2s during the week!

I run 36 psi on blacktop and 18psi 99% of the time offroad sometimes 14psi

Would buy them again!
I don't get drunk.Anymore

Hi,
Trying to decide tire sizing on 2009 SR5. 30" or 31" (15 inch rim). Wondering if the 31" affect performance .
Any advice appreciated.

31 s will lose power a little but it's worth it for the better performance off-road and the look

I just lifted my 06 sr5 diesel and went from 31's to 32's because i didnt want to cut into any guards but when dropping pressure to around 20psi out bush, they scrape everything. Should have just got 33s really cos ive had to trim a little anyway

Performance wise i noticed a slight drop but nothing major and was used to it after a few days. 31s you should have no problems

Im getting a 2 inch lift next week and hoping to get some 265/75R16 BFG MT early next week. From what i have read nearly everyone is running something that varies slightly from the next. My question is What is better 16X7 or 16x8 and the correct offet to use on each?

Mine came with some 235/75r16 BF Goodrich A/T's so don't know how it compares to standard road tyres. However I still have enough poke to drag off your average person at the lights. Just find the difference between doing 100km/h and 110km/h is 350-400rpm, which makes a big difference in fuel consumption. Don't know what thats like normally but this info might help you.

Anyone have any experience, and mostly some miles (like a few 1000s) on a set of Cooper ST-MAXX or Mickey Thompson ATZ P3s?
Looking into the option of an "aggresive all terrain" instead of a muddy.

If you've got them, how did they go in mud and rocks, and how do they wear on the tarmac.

Any help is appreciated, cheers.

Have the new P3's, havn't had experience off-road yet, but on road they're pretty good. Good in the wet. Can give you an update on offroad soon.

Some extra info on them here too:

Cheers, mostly interested in durability as well. My car is driven mostly on the roads and do about 20000 km a year , so don't want em to wear down in a year sorta deal.

2008 Toyota SR5 Hilux DC

TYRE SIZE: 265/75/16 apparently 31.6 inch

TYPE: general grabber all terrain lt 10ply

SUSPENSION LIFT: ultimate 2inch

RIM SIZE: 16x7 0 offset alloy

WEAR, PERFORMANCE ON and OFF ROAD: not sure yet as ive only just fitted them. quiet till about 80kph then its a bearable noise.

FITMENT:
rubs on mudguards just shy of full lock when on the ground. removed front mudguards and it clears everything both on the ground and jacked up.
i have plenty of photos of clearance and will put them up when i get better internet access.

Not sure if this has been covered, but one thing commonly overlooked is finding a spare tyre exactly the same size as you are running when out of town or if you have a tyre blow in a remote location.

Last year up the cape I was running 245 75 16 tyres and had a puncture. A trip to the tyre mob in bamaga got it plugged and pumped up again.
I only had one spare and thought I would have a look for another 2nd hand to suit while I was there. Well out of all the 1000's of tyres he had, we found maybe 2 in this size.

Most of the tyres he had were landcruiser and patrol size.. 265 75 16 and 285 75 16.
First thing I did when I got home was upgrade to 265 75 16 tyres to replace the old bald ones and also so I have peace of mind that if I ever need one in a remote location again, it shouldn't be a problem. Next time I will take two spares just in case too.

Thanks for listening. Kieran

I agree. As long as we all learn by mistakes life becomes easyer. For me its 2 x spares every time im in remote, or at least an extra casing.
All for 265x75x16.

One for the 2wd guys (if there are any on here)
My original Bridgestone 623's lasted 130k km and still weren't on the markers but the grip was pretty crap.

Changed to Goodyear Durasport in a 215/70 15. This reduced the speedo error to only 2kmh difference at 100kmh. The difference in grip was amazing particularly in wet weather. Very impressed but after 90k km they were toast.

Have just switched to Michelin Agilis (215/70 15 again). So far the grip seems on par with the Durasports though haven't tried them in the wet yet. They feel a little more responsive however are a little louder especially on a surface which isn't super smooth.

More to follow............

Can we extend the info? there's a lot of info on handling and all that, but has anyone got any wear rate info?
I'd like to see info on how much its worn over how many km's, and % of dirt vs tarmac that's been done on the tyres.
There's a few amongst here that have done, but it would help me decide on a tyre type a lot.
