The Total Chaos ones I used on my last rig gave me the range of adjustment to move them further from the firewall, I figured they were all like that (except the fixed setting versions).

if the wheel is moved forward using the upper control arm, as distinct from using the lower arm, the upper ball joint is moved forward, which will reduce castor, although, as you say, it will increase clearance.

Any clearance change, increase or decrease, made by moving the top ball joint a given amount will be very small,simply because the top ball is much further from the spindle than the bottom ball.

The way to chase increased clearance is by moving the bottom ball forward, and with standard bushes, this has it limits before you run into alignment tradeoffs.

Or just suck it up and reach for the grinder

I'm about to purchase wheels and tires and wanted to check and see if anyone thinks I will face any clearance problems with this setup. I am particularly concerned about the loss of .59" inner clearance (according to https://www.customwheeloffset.com/tire- ... alculators)

17x8 wheels with +35 offset
Wrangler MT/R LT265/70R17 tires

Will there be any clearance problems using a stock suspension? Will there be any problems with a 2" suspension lift?

I'm worried that the +35 offset is going to cause inner clearance problems. The wheel I want only comes in +10 and +35 offset for the 17x8 wheels.

I've got 16x6 in a -22 with 265/75r16 on it, doesn't scrub unless full lock and under a fair bit of compression.

Wanting to get a set of 285/75r16 with -13.
I'm thinking having the extra 10mm on the tyre will be counteracted with the offset change.

Anyone else tried neg offset with 33"

ah that was a typo, 16x8 I've got hahah

I've got the monster rides at about 3.5" and 2" in the back

On willtheyfit.com it says the tyre will be about the same on the outside which I am hoping because it doesn't scrub at the moment.

Got quiet an aggressive mt atm too and I'm going to go bfg ko2's so I think that would have less chance to scrub as well.

Pretty nervous spending a heap of money and hoping they aren't worse

If you have any clearance left, it will be very, very, little. I wouldn't cut it that fine.

Hey guys fairly new to the forum and i just cant seem to find a straight answer for my question.
Ive got a 2012 sr5 hilux with a 2" dobinsons lift and just bought a set of 285/75/16 goodyear wrangler mt/r's. I used my old steel wheels off my 265's (they are a 16x7 think the offset is pos 25, not quite sure) and experienced a bit of rubbing on the chassis behind the wheel and a tad on the uca's. I went to a tyre place and they recomend a 16x8 on a p20 offset, anyone had experience with this setup and can let me know how it goes? Would this offset and wheel width reduce some scrubbing? Sorry im not too familiar with offsets. Any help or recomendationd would greatly be appreciated! Cheers, Alex.

16x7 really is too narrow for a 285, most tyre manufacturers recommend 7.5 as the bare minimum width.

For a 285, p20 would still be very close, the most popular offset for a 285 on a 16x8 rim is p10, which gives good clearance and will keep all brands of 285 covered by the flares.

Thanks for the reply taresk, so a gu patrol steel wheel would probably work the best and clear me over the callipers by the sounds of it?

The uca is the big problem with pos offset. P10 or less is best.

Yes, GU wheels work well.

I just got a set of GU 16x8 steelies for $150, 5 of them.

Yes, I can attest to that. GU steel rims with 33's work very well and stay in line with the SR5 flares. They also clear the brake callipers. I've had mine on for maybe 1.5yrs and no issues with brakes.

just fitted them up with some Maxxis 980s today, they fit really well.

Just scrambled through 64 pages here, does anybody happen to have a picture showing how low a 285 hangs in the spare wheel spot?

As shameful as it is, my confidence in the X-Terrains has meant I haven't thought twice about the fact that I've been running around with a 29" factory spare since buying the car (that came with 32" tyres fitted).

I will rectify this when my replacements are fitted in a weeks time, but I have been considering an above-spare fuel tank, and find it hard to picture what difference 65mm will make when I don't know where a 285 sits.

I think it was probably just my towbar but my 33s wouldn't even fit under there! Plus I'd had a few punchers in the spare 32s from being under there so I never put it back under there after the second one.

Hi Taresk.
I had an over the spare aux tank.
I ran 265's and had no issues with fitting the spare with tank.
That said, if I was to tackle a bouldery track or very steep creek exit I might consider temp relocation of the spare.
I will have to wade thru pics of te old rig but the bottom of the page of the link below shows who far the tank will sit

I've got a spare 285 under the tray. Fits easily with no dramas. I have no aux tank installed though. Don't know if this helps or not.

Ok, Thanks guys, that does help. I might go ahead with it then, and think of somewhere I can stick my spare for really rough trips (assuming it fits under there at all) Mine are on the small side as far as 33's go, so hopefully it won't be an issue.

For most trips I could just throw it in the tub, but if I do long trip I'll need somewhere else, maybe a flat rack on the roof, or a hard cover with a rack attached.
