Fitted a set of Falken Wildpeak M/Ts 285 70 17 this week on Dynamic 17x8 p10 rims. Chose the rims based on this thread - thanks everyone!

My lux is on a fairly old Ultimate 2in lift, so probably a bit of sag there. For these wheels, I moved the lower control arm all the way forward. I checked the alignment which is within spec but I have no idea what the castor is yet... but it drives fine. Only a little bit of rub on the drivers front mud flap, otherwise a good fit.ImageImageImageImage

Nice job mate the same procedure should work for 285/75r16 do you think? although according to this thread I read a zero offset works well too

Thanks, I've been very happy with it so far.

From what I've read here - tyre sizes between different manufacturers varies greatly. I've read that the Falkens are slightly narrower than others, which helps the scrub radius a lot.

I wouldn't be able to run zero offset with 285/75r16 or 285/70r17 without cutting - the scrub radius is too great and I'd definitely need to cut plastic and potentially the body mount.

Yeah I've done a bit of homework on this thread and I see what you mean looks like you have a perfect combination of offset for tyre size, your clearance around your tyre looks great!!! Gonna go exact same combination on mine i reckon
Thanks for info mate cheers

No worries at all.

I have just returned from a bit of wheeling around the Vic Alps between Dargo and Thredbo. The setup is near perfect - I had a bit of scrubbing on the inside front of the rear flare/guard at full flex and a little scrubbing on the front mudflaps and just a touch on the swaybar.

Going from 32s to 33s I did notice a reduction in gearing - but not enough to make me want to regear. Fuel consumption is about the same.

Keep an eye on your rotors, they won't like that tyre size much!

A special thanks to everyone who contributed to the thread. It helped immensely with my choices.

Im running 2in lift front and rear. KYB struts with King springs in the front.
In the rear i have EFS 2in lifted comfort leaves.

I went with GU Patrol Steel wheels . 16x8 +10 offset
Tyres are Mickey Thompson ATZ P3 . 285/75/16

Hopefully this can help others :)

Happy with the overall outcome. Only had to trim the inner guard plastics at the rear.

Looking good mate!
How do you find the mt’s noise wise?
Also I’m in the process of designing a half a half rack with a flip up boat rack.
How do you find taking off the tent cover with the zip on the front side? Is it a pain?

Cheers mate. The Mickeys are the quietest tyres i've had other than the standard road tyres, theyre great.

My tent cover has velcro the whole way around and i dont have any issue getting to it but im pretty tall :)

Long thread but very informative. Is the general consensus that a 17X8 0 offset rim will not fit, if using upgraded Prado calipers?

Thanks for the info! I’m doing a 2” Outback Armour lift next week and getting some 285/75/16 on +10 offset steels. Thanks again for posting, really helps :) I’ll post pics when it’s done.

Prado calipers will clear 17in rims.

That offset is more likely to scrub but that depends on what tyre you choose.

The 60-odd pages of info here were really helpful! I put in a 2" Outback Armour lift and diff drop. For the tyres and wheels I was after +10 sunnies but when I got there they said they only had +0 and +20 but were adamant that +20 would be fine and wouldn't scrub on the body mount at full lock.

I had replaced the original Bridgestones H/Ts with Yokohama Geolandar 285/65R17 which are in the before photos and they have now been replaced with Nitto Terrain Grappler 285/75R16 (32.8").

...offset fairlead, mounting box for the solenoid and we'll be good to go again! Cheers for all the help in this thread :)

Just thought i'd post again with the newest setup. Running FJ Cruiser wheels now.
These are a great offset for 33s with 2in lift. They do scrub lightly on front mudflaps but thats it.
Tyres are Hankook Dynapro MT 285/70/17. I scored them in a 4 for 3 deal which ended up making
them $270 each fitted.

So far im happy with them but time will tell. Minimal noise for an aggressive mud tyre and they performed
great in very slushy deep mud on the weekend. Keen to put them to the test some more :P
