Wheel size for 2011 Hilux SR

Hi all,

I've been searching the forums for an answer about tyre/wheel size for my hilux but haven't had any luck yet. What I have is a 2011 Hilux SR single-cab 4x2. It currently has the standard size wheels and tyres, 205/70r15C which is what it also says on the tyre placard. What I would like to do is fit the new model standard hilux 4x4 wheels and tyres 225/70r/17c as they always come up on marketplace and are usually well priced.

Im pretty sure they will fit with no problems but i just want to know if this is legal as it will be a significant increase in size. I have read something about it being ok to fit the largest wheel size for that model of car. If anyone has done this before or knows if it's legal can you please help me out. I live in QLD.

Cheers
Brendan

It will ultimately depend on the rules in your local jurisdiction. Check with the QLD authority on this and see what they say.
You will also need to consider the rolling diameter and how this will affect your speedo & trip meter, not forgetting that speed limits (speedo readings) will be affected by putting on larger wheels. What you save in rubber costs can easily be used up in speeding fines.

You might find the 4×2 wheels are 5 stud and the 4×4 is 6 stud. Clearance might be a problem too.
Cheers Gipsy :D although I'm sure somebody will challenge that  even Einstein wasn't certain of his theories.

Yes, even fitting larger diameter tyres will give clearance problems. When I bought my 4 X 2 a few years back the tyres were only and inch or so oversized, and there were areas rubbing under the front guards.

And of course they're 5 studs.
