Wheel chains

I've a '06 Hilux with a 2" lift, fitted with 265-70/16 tires on 16 x 7" 0 offset wheels. Has anybody have a similar setup and used chains on the front, do they clear or try to tear the front end off. I use cut down army ice breakers on the back, but I would like to try a lighter set on the front to complement the rear.
Ashy.

Your closest point will be the knob just behind the tyre sidewall on the suspension upright.

0 offset and 265 should give enough clearance depending on the chains used. Standard off set definitely will NOT. The bigger the bar diameter of the chains the more likely you are to have problems, but also the more effective the chains will be, particularly in mud. The lighter "quick fit" style of Euro chains (eg. Konig) will give you the least clearance trouble, but be less effective on clay and in mud.

Some actual measuring by you of the clearance and of the chains under consideration is the only way to be sure.

Use of anything except very small amounts of steering lock will probably rip stuff around.

If you have a look at what was done on the fitting 33's thread, that should show you what you might be in for to clear chains on 32's.

This a 285/70/17 on a p10 rim. Chains may clear the UCA but not the guard when turning or the swaybar at full lock.

I think you'll be ok with 265/70/16 0 offset.

Full lock won't be usable with serious chains on any sensible rim/tyre/offset combination.

Not a problem as long as the measurements that I referred to are taken first, and the driver keeps it in mind and makes allowances when applying lock.

Yeah I agree. I also remembered that my 285s rub the UCA on full lock - you can see the rub mark in the photo. This might be something else to consider.

I ran chains on 265/75/16's on p30 steelies with a 2"lift. Zero problems, never scrubbed anywhere.
