2005 SR5 Tyre upgrade to 31/10.5R15

Pads are cheap but do yourself a favor and get some quality pads like bendix or qfm. From memory they come from an 2004 to 07 WRX and they slot right in to your existing calipers. A search here should come up with the correct year model.

I just received the following from Ryano from Triple R Offroad ( formally at Fourbys ) here in Brisbane and this can put to rest any confusion re: 31/10.5r15 tyre size as he said to me below:

Hey mate.
Standard OD is 738mm so you can increase 50mm from there. So 788mm is legal.
OD on the 31x10.50R15 is 775mm which is within spec.
Hilux is the only vehicle out there that has had the axle load rating listed on the Tyre placard and directs an override of the OE Tyre specs allowing the reduced Tyre load carrying.
31x10.50R15 is perfectly legal and is what I would go for if sticking with the stock rims.

This has certainly given me an the confidence to buy these tyres now (Ryano is the tyre god and is well known to be very knowledgeable) so will be contacting Ryano at Triple R offroad once I work out which ones to go.

Just be careful with the OD of the Imperial tyre. 31” is actually 788mm (1” is 25.4mm not 25mm), but they do tend to be smaller. Basically they aren’t all the same, but this is the same for metric tyres.
As already pointed out, a 50mm OD increase may be legal but you will suffer with braking. When Toyota increased the Hilux tyre from 255/70/15 to 265/65/17 that is also an increase from a 738mm tyre to a 776mm tyre they also increased the rotor diameter from 297mm to either 319mm or 338mm. Tyre shops either do not know this or choose to ignore it - I bet they never warn customers of the fact.
