35"s do fit!

Spotted this obviously well used 'lux in Darwin.
35x12.5R15 Maxxis Bighorn's. Looks like they might rub a little on the firewall though. Hard to say how much lift it has and it doesn't look to abnormal parked there until you realise that my 'Cruiser ute behind it has 3" lift and 33"s.
Amazing what you can get away with in the territory. Anyone's from here?

I've edited that url img code to properly display the thumbnail. I tried before to post the image like rodw but keep getting that same cropped result? I've never had this happen with imageshack before. Strange, must be too big?

Maxxis don't make the Bighorn in 35x10.5. look here

Ive just blown up that pic abit to check it out....The front end looks to be higher a tad than the back.

I reckon he must have a really stiff suspension to get away with those tyres and he'd be running a decent set of wheel spacers too.

The rear of the front guards looks to be close and on turning must rub.

Was it still IFS or was it live axled?

You sure they werent TRXUS Mud terrains?

They look similar.

Bottom line is....I wanna know how he did it...Im jealous :x

You can get a swamper SSR in 35/10.5x15 which would fit onto the "rim" if you could get clearance for it, and suits a 15x7.

Still IFS Max. Easier to see in this pic.
Tyres were definately rubbing but judging by the bodywork, I doubt the owner cares too much.
There was no-one about to ask the details but the Snake Racing sticker might give a clue.

yep, they are bighorns, I reckon it is a snake kit in it with longer coils probably sitting at 5 to 6"

then again, look at where his number plate is sitting on the front....looks like he may have a bodylift and that front arb bar has been modded/lifted to suit?

anyone else care to analyse?

still jealous thou :(

I see what you mean about the number plate. I didn't look for body lift blocks but it's pretty obvious now that you mention it. Here's another shot from the rear. Last one.

pics?

I think its one that has a 6" lift from the US fitted......was done on gold coast somewhere from memory. 100% illegal and no chance of getting it approved by engineers, if its the one I heard about.

No point having it look tough sitting in your driveway if you cant drive it?

nah no pics coz it was just on the DVD it was done by Coss 4WD (i think thats how its spelt and pronounced) yeah it is illigal coz ya can see where they have cut the crossmember to fit the diff. it has a fair bit of wheel articulation with that kit, it flexed well.

Look up Profile for Dakes, his rig in bendigo runs 33's does clutches, CV's and lacks power. Big Blue thing.

Suspension - Modified Ultimate Suspension lift kit now about 5.5-6 inch
Tyres - 285/75/16 Mickey Thompson MTZ (33 inch)
Total lift - About 8 inch
he has run 35's as play tyres..... Doesnt kick around the forum any more but.
pretty sure he now has a body lift.

If you want I can get some more pics of rig.

was for sale a while ago but nobody wants to pay what he is asking.

I love my lux...ofcourse.... but if i wanted to run 35's id be looking to go for a bigger power plant.... or in that case maybe back to a cruiser..........

is there anyone who has run 35's without ANY problems????

Oxman,

if you manage to get enough clearance to run 35's there wouldn't be a problem as long as you regear.....rgearing is the be all and end all if running bigger rubber.......otherwise your 4 speed auto will become a 3 speed that will be working way too hard.

not only that but you'll need momentum to get over obstacles offroad which is where you break things.....regearing will bring your performance and crawl ratio close to or better thanstandard which is what you need.

Regarding that Hilux you speak off, I remember seeing it for sale....was asking a pretty penny for it.....

Looked abit wierd on 285's as it sits abit high.......almost looks unstable....no way that would pass a swerve test in my opinion...he should have just left the Ultimate lift in it without the extra length coils if he was running 285's.....

good point max.....

realistically what would it cost to run 35's effectively?

Regear
Marks 4wd spedo adaptor
rims
tyres
more lift

what else?

Ox-man ;)

Regear - 4.5:1 about 1500bux parts and labour.....thats a ball park figure.....might be a tad over this.
Marks speedo module is only 180 bux and easy to wire up...got one already ;)
rims.....this is the be alll and end all to get this working properly...

35/12.5x16's you can forget about with a 3" lift, it aint gonna happen no matter how much you cut and trim short of tubbing the front end out.

FJ cruiser rims from the states are the ideal setup.....16x7.5 with a +15 offset.....then comes your tyre options......you'd be trying to keep it as close to 10.5" wide as possible, to use all the inner guard space that you can when under suspension compression.....options are -

silverstone mt117 extremes in 35/10.5x16 (34.8x11.2x16)
swamper SSR radials in 285/75x16 (33.9x11.3x16)
swamper SSR radials in 35/10.5x16 (35.2x11.1x16) might be a tad tall but bump stops extension might help.

theres a good range of narrow simex centipedes and jungle trekkers you could run between 34 - 35" and just over 11" wide.......

another one that yanks like is the Swamper LTB in 34/10.5x16 (33.6x10.5x16)

which ever option you go, you'd need to regear, trim alot of plastic, remove flare maybe, and little bit of lower rear quarter (turning arc) and the mount aggressively.

remember, between 34 to 35" there only a difference of half an inch clearance so it'll come down to personal preference tyre wise.

only thing holding me back is a regear at the moment, that hopefully will get done end of year - start of next....then the cutting begins

another option is to run previous shape SR5 alloys, they bolt on, are a 15x7 in +8 offset and if you can keep the tyre width within 10.5 inch it should still "just" tuck in inside the guard.....the guard has the room inside but the small guard cutout is what prohibits larger tyres, and many aren't keen on cutting.....

each to their own i guess

References

05+ Tacoma with FJ rims and 34/10.5 x16 LTB's and small lift. as you can see he removed the flares (exposed studs on guard) to gain a bigger turning arc.
Image

05+ FJ CRUISER with stock 16x7.5 rims and 35/10.5x16 SSR's.....slight rubbing at top of inner guard .Flares removed too.

anyway, thats just my opinion...........................
