35"s do fit!

Need something to get you rolling?

35's do fit on Hilux!

Postby Hilux Max on Fri, 16 Apr 2010 4:39 +0000

Thought I'd resurrect this old thread for those of us that are looking for those 2 extra inches

Now we all know on here that Bull's Hilux is riding on 35" silverstones so I'll add him here first -

Those Silverstones are 285/85x16 which equate to 35.3x11.3x16 for those interested.

Now the following Hilux belongs to Nick, he is a bloke from Malaysia that I have had some correspondence with on 4x4 action via PM's.....yes, I have told him bout this site.

Anyway, he is runnign a 3.5" lift and 35" Mickey Thompson Claws.....Mickey Thompson wheels too but he is yet to specify whether they are 15x8's or 16x8's but Ill keep ya'all updated either way.

Maan! How sexy are those flares?

That is a really well kitted out Hilux....I'm convinced that Im going to follow in his footsteps and 35's next....dont care how much I have to cut .....

Luv the look of Nicks rig  , notice how high up the guard the flares go.........
he's got no snorkel, but if you removed a snorkel to fit the flares they'd probably cover the hole left behind, then custom snorkel.......has a rear mounted winch aswell

Not a fan of those flares at all I like the rest of the truck though but to be honest I think Bulls is the better looking of the two 8-)

I agree Boof; Bull's looks like it is well-thought-out, no-nonsense and purpose built; the other one looks a bit like a Transformer with its body kit and stuck-on bits.

for the trouble and work involved to fit 35's and make them work right, i dont see the point!

Yes they look awesome and beefy but for all the hassle and only gaining an inch diff clearance compared to 33's, like i said dont see the point....

yer i nearly tipped my lux today...i dnt want it any higher unless it can also be made wider...and on 33's we have as much diff clearance as a patrol on 35's anyways coz our pumpkin is smaller...i cant see the need for 35's

Man anyone will tell you including myself, after you have the 33's for a little while they do look small. Especially with your lift (3" sus and 2"bl)....

Pretty sure thats used to be the comparison for the previous shape/generation hilux's....I'd say these current ones have more clearance than a patrol on 35's atleast on the front end.

Jack S wrote:Man anyone will tell you including myself, after you have the 33's for a little while they do look small.

Yep....I've had to stop looking at my hilux because the more I look the smaller they get.

Sr5luxy wrote:i want 35s now, only trouble is u cant really go very wide with the 35s like i would have hoped for :(

Exactly...tyre options are limited....the MTZ is the smallest 315/75x16 out there.....fitting them on FJ cruiser rims and aftermarket upper control arms with a good 3"+ lift is the closest and best way anyone is gonna be able to run em properly...unfrtunately I am yet to see anyone do it.

And my hlux is barely bearable on the 305's with the D4D auto....so on 35's it would be a downright pig to drive without a regear......then if you get booked on 35's....your vehicle will be revving its ringer off on 32/33's after the regear to suit 35's.....etc etc etc.

Being able to get 33's working properly will get your vehicle further than 35's that dont....reading the terain and trying to take a different line will also do the same....But I do understand the metal deficiency I myself too suffer from and constantly wish of fitting 35" Plus tyres to the hilux.

It is doable....just not for onroad.....

If your 33's look too small they are not wide enough lol, im like maxx the more i look at them side on the smaller they seem but i have heaps of ground clearance and it keeps the cops off my back. BUT look at them from front on or from an angle and they look f^#king huge lol add the 12.5 with or 305's to a -12 offset and it looks just as tough as my mates patrols all running 35's
Im not stuck..... Im thinking

   Nice one UAV, looks like you have no up travel at all and the front wheels look like they will foul the guards when turning
