stock rims or go steelies?

Need something to get you rolling?

stock rims or go steelies?

Postby krayzie on Fri, 16 Dec 2016 8:01 +0000

Hi Guys

i have a bit of a dilemma - i currently have HT on standard SR5 rims but i want to change to something more aggressive off road i was thinking about replacing the HT with something like BFG KO2 on the standard rims.

my question is - should i swap over to steel rims and get "better" ATs or will the stock rims be just as good?

i dont have it lifted or a bullbar

thanks guys

I had 31" BFG KO's on SR5 alloys, they didnt look that much aggressive because the offset tucked them in.

If you want aggressive get wheels with at least +10 to 0 offset so it will sit more flush with the guards.

Hey mate, just to give you some sort of idea if you decide to keep the stock rims and get some tires, these are how BF KO2 265/70/17s will sit and look.

Except they won't look like that because he has an SR5 and the tyre will sit inside the guards.
What year is your car mate?
You will have to decide weather you want the extra width and get steel rims with a better offset +5-10mm is perfect and fills the guards nicely, but does scrub with bigger tyres on it (i need some castle wedges).
I have gone Steel GU patrol rims that have a +10mm offset, this gives me a 40mm wider track all up and since I have a 2" lift it helps keep handling as good as standard if not better.
Or if you just want the benefit of having bigger/better tyres?

Hey memokab93, did you spray your Rims yourself or get that done by powder coating. Have an SR5 with KO2's which I'll post to show the size but want to spray them black? Thanks

Originally I plastidipped them black... looks the exact same but when I had to change the tires, it was going to damage the plastidip so I had them professionally sprayed satin black not powder coated when I got the KO2s.

thanks for the reply guys.

awill, my car is a 2013 year model sr5

would it be better to get smaller rims (15s?) and put more tire on it?

i dont have a lift kit yet and i wouldnt be getting one for a while so i guess that would decrease the type of tyre i get?

15's only fit on the luxes with the smaller brakes, the lowest you'd be able to go is 16's and only some will clear the calipers.
