Factory rims and sports bar on my 2010 SR5.
Just got the ute back from the panel beaters (don't ask) after repair and they gave the paint work a buff over for me.
But of course now the rims & bar look decidedly tired, dull & watermarked against the paintwork.
After 6 years, they are still in remarkably good condition overall but I guess they're due for their _first_ polish.

Was suggested I use Mothers PowerBall Mini Polisher on cordless drill with Mothers Plastic Polish or PowerPlastic if the rims & sports bar are clear coated, or Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish if they're not.

Am I correct in deducing both the rims & sports bar are in fact clear coated?

Anyone used 'Mothers' like to comment on it, or anyone want to suggest a better product?

Dont know about the rim but the bars aren't clear coated. I always used either autosol or purple metal polish if I could get it. Autosol is great for any polishing, just rub it on and polish it off.

Factory rims on the SR5 are alloys. The sports bar isnt clear coated either.

Use metal polish on both and then seal it with wax.

I had to use very fine steel wool on my sports bar to cut through all the crap.

Think you'll find the rims ARE clear coated and a reason not to get smack on wheel weights as it breaks the coat.

Cant say I have seen alloys not clear coat. I only use turtle wax any polish will cut into the clear they use and once damaged never be the same. There are alloy wheel restorers around if they are that bad.

Sports bar I use autosol, works great no matter how many times you use it

I think Richard might be right. I had a look at old photos and it did have some shine to it. When i had the wheel weights taken out on mine i didnt remember any gouging of the clear coat.

Just use your usual paint polish then.

Poor Boys make a polish called Wheel Sealant that's made for rim protection of break dust, I used it on my '07 Hilux but me thinks it's no better that using other polish/wax's.

These day I just use car wash and three different brushes to clean my rims.

I use this sealant, its pretty tough stuff.

On further inspection I've 99% decided the rims are clear coated & the bar isn't.
Thanks for the replies, now to get an attack of the industrials and give em a go.... next weekend, maybe, if I don't get a better offer lol
