Brake squeal after fitting d locker steel wheels

Hi all,

So I have searched and searched to find more info on this but havnt seem to find the answer so i'm hoping someone can help....

I recently purchased D locker steel wheels 17x8 and fitted Mickey Thompson 265x70x17. Since they have been fitted after around 10 or 15 mins my brakes seem to squeal. I have read the steel wheels are lug centric and alloys are hub centric. I see you can buy centric rings as I believe Kings wheels hub diameter are 111mm and the Hilux hub bore is 106.5mm

So if I install the hub centric ring this will overcome the lug centric problem. But why is it making my brakes squeal???

Any help would be appreciated

I have read a few post on this an I think one other member had the exact same problem as me..

Vehicle is a 2013 SR5 Hilux Auto dual cab

By putting a smear of grease on the 6 points where the pads make conact with the backing plate like it shows in the toyota manual indicated by arrows stopped mine from squealing. High Temperature grease that is.

I wonder why its only happened now I have changed wheels...I cant work that out

Same happened to me once i changed wheels. Buggered if i know

Maybe less airflow from the steel wheels making the brakes heat up more....

Its a strange one..

But the grease seemed to definitely fix the problem you reckon?

Is it possible that the wheel is applying pressure to the brake drum, thus pushing it sideways, so that the drum is rubbing on the backing plate, or the shoes are rubbing the inside of the drum?

As viper said above.
Apply high temp grease to all brake pad backing plates (Drum and disc pads). Supercheap also sell antisqueal adhesive in the brakes section.

Brakes can squeal due to contamination stuck on brake pads, pads set at awkward angle causing high frequency vibration, polished brake surfaces, or could simply be worn pads.
I've had mechanics sand down a small chamfer to the leading and trailing egdes of the pads and successfully eliminate brake squeal. And these were Mercedes mechanics, not dodgy buggers.

That's what I was also thinking 06xtracab....might see how close the wheels are to the hub..

So went to my local brake & clutch place...what a pleasant experience that was.

They knew exactly what & how to fix the problem..

Machined the drums & added the high temp grease $100 all done no more squeal!!
