Explain to the custodian of the cash that tyres are simply consumables, like fuel and oil.
All you are doing is bringing the purchase forward a little. Also explain that by having two sets, you will be able to use them more efficiently and get a greater total mileage out them than if you simply made do with one set, which will be incorrect for part of your use and will therefore wear quicker.
With any luck, you won't be asked about the necessary second set of rims.
This approach makes so much sense that you can probably convince even yourself.
It seems to have worked for me for years, but I suspect my wife simply didn't care.
It's also helpful if all the sets of wheels aren't together. While such a display looks mighty fine to us, the sight can bring clarity to the keeper of the cash. Clarity is not always helpful to us.
