KO2 Balancing

Postby Fixa4377 on Tue, 05 Jan 2016 7:16 +0000

Hi guys, Did a search but nothing really found,

Taken the Hilux back twice since getting new KO2's fitted a fortnight ago, Still vibrates at around 90-100km hr,

Fitted at a small Tyre supplier who is a bit hard to communicate to and think he has thrown his hand up and I'm willing to take it somewhere else and pay IF there is a solution?

What sort of rims do you have? It is necessary to get some one who knows what they are doing. If the rims are not true, they will never balance. What area are you in? Maybe someone can recommend a good operator.

Maybe try to identify which wheel it is by swapping them out one at a time with the spare and hope it is only one you have trouble with.

If your tyre fitter doesn't have his own balancer and aligner he has to pay for everything he has done to rectify the problem with a product he sold, morally it is a gamble on his part and he should sort it, but when it starts to cost money it is amazing how quickly they lose the ability to understand English.

He may have his own gear and been stung by less than honest people that buy a set of tyres and try to get pre existing faults fixed blaming the tyres.

I have had to threaten a local bridgestone dealer with court to resolve a tyre fault dispute before they started to co operate.

I would just go to a large tyre outlet and ask their advise, most will be willing to help you(for a fee) knowing it wont be the last time you need tyres.

I had the same problem with my KO2s. Had 2 wheel balances and alignments and didn't do anything. Got an alignment when my suspension got put in at a different place and it fixed it.

Rims are good and tyres are good just need a good alignment operator! You don't say where you are, someone could recommend a good place to go.

Question,

I didn't think different tyres needed different alignment, if the old tyres were performing ok with the alignment wouldn't the new ones?

Otherwise manufacturers of vehicles and tyres would have to give many different sets of alignment specs.

Did you change anything else when you had the KO2's fitted?

I'm south eastern suburbs Vic - Had them fitted in Dandenong,

Just a complete tyre change nothing else, The Bridgestone H/T's were smooth, I will take to another Tyre specialist and see what they have to say maybe?

I understand what you say and you are correct. I was referring to a business - operator.

I would recommend widetrack tyres in upper FTG for balancing your tyres. I had similar problems in the past but when I went there they couldn't have been more helpful and fixed the problem. Tell them what the problem has been. You can't beat experience with larger tyres.

Good luck

I had the same problem with my car. The place that sold me the new tyres had two goes at balancing them, getting a little better the second time, and managed to lose one of my lock nuts. Gave me a few bullshit excuses and fairy tales for free though

Went some where else and paid again. Voila - perfect.

So my problem was lazy stupid pricks. Unfortunately they seem to be fairly common nowadays in a range of automotive "services".

That may not be your problem, but going somewhere else could be a good idea, particularly if your first place doesn't want to own the issue.

If nothing has changed except the tyres, and all was good before the change, it's a bit of a stretch to blame wheel alignment.
