Stock iron wheels Vs stock alu wheels

Postby patton on Mon, 16 Nov 2015 5:29 +0000

Hello i got the stock iron wheels with 205 80 16 i am planning a change on the wheels and also in the tires. My choice is 235/85/16 cooper st max or bf goodrich at 2 and i have two dif choices keeping the irons and painting in black, buying new irons or some ALU wheels that i found. The ALUImage are the stock hilux vigo.

My worries are if for soft ofroad is better ALU wheels and if you can feell any improvements in performance because of the lightness of the wheels.

Also whats the best way to paint iron and ALU wheels??

My car is a 2011 Toyota Hilux 2'5 diesel
Thanks

I pulled off the alloys and replaced them with steel for offroad use as I can belt out a bend in the steel rim with a mach hammer, where as the alloy would be fractured, or if bent then buggered. You can get the steel rims re-rolled, but not the alloys. I do have to state that I do a lot of rough outback road trips, and the vechile is not used for city every day driving. As for painting, have you though of getting the rims both steel or alloy powder coated.

Ok, i think then i will keep my irons and try to paint it. I look around and found 2/ways of painting. LĂquid vinil and powder coated. First one is cheaper but i dont really know if its hard enough for an off road car.

They don't make wheels out of purely iron mate, they'd be steel which is an iron alloy to increase strength and durability.
