Hi, Yes I know there is a ton of threads on tyres, but I have trolled through allot of them and none are what i am specifically looking for.

I have a 2014 SR5, and I'd like to ask members on their experience on All terrain tyre manufacturers. I am looking to replace the HT bridgestone tyres for something a little more suited to off road but not mud type.

What I am specifically after are how these AT tyres perform in the wet on asphalt roads, as thats my main type of driving, but obviously some capabilities for off road is important.

I have read that some AT require driving adjustment when it rains on asphalt, so looking to hear peoples thoughts.

I have maxtrek su800 A/T's, pretty cheap at 180 a tyre for 265/70/15.

Go really well off road and are really quiet

incman, We always run all terrains on every car we own, even mud terrains on some. They are fine, even in the wet, provided they have some siping in the tread. The Kelly TSR's had some reasonable siping in the tread, moreso than the BF Goodrich all terrain's did. I am going to be going to the Toyo Open Country AT2's for my next set, and will let you know how they go. I hear the Toyo are great tires, my old man runs them on his pootrol, and they are quite puncture proof, but that isn't going to help you on a slippery road unfortunately.

Bottom line, you won't drive a your hilux exactly the same with the AT's as you did with the HT's, but in my opinion, it can be a worthwhile tradeoff for most situations, once your used to it, you just need to break a little earlier, and pick an all terrain tyre that has a bit of siping in the tread to allow for decent wet weather performance.

I am tossing up between ATs and LTs. I think the LTs have a harder composition but could be too stiff in the side walls but still good chunky tread.

Note..... I have no experience with off road tyres, just like to weigh up all options, any thoughts?

I replaced with Bridgestone HTs with their Dueler ATs - pretty happy with them.

Stick with the Bridgestone AT 697's.
Value for money and low noise.

I always run BFG's A/T's and find them excellent on road, in wet conditions and off road. I don't do hard core stuff. I have only ever had one puncture in over 20 years

I also run the BFG AT's and find them to be excellent in all conditions. Another good tyre is the Goodyear Dura trac, we use them at work and they are damn near bullet proof.

just fitted bfg a/t 235/85r16 and im real happy with them.

just done 1800kays over the long weekend on the hiway they were very quiet and a few hundred klms of rough shaly roads loaded up, i should have let them down on the gravel but didnt have my compressor and they still look new

They are a fantastic tire rusty, my old man got 104,000 out of the set on his navara, then it blew up, still life left in the tires. As stated earlier, he is now driving a patrol with toyo tyres till we get a new worker then buying an sr5 Hilux. You will be very happy with the old shape all terrain bf Goodrich all terrains, they are brilliant.

I'm perfectly happy with my Cooper AT3's. Haven't experienced any troubles on wet asphalt. I'm running the narrow LT 215/85r16.

I have BF AT's and would never buy them again. Only 20,000km on them (running correct pressures for terrain /roadsurface) and they have lost tread blocks and chipped and nicked a ridiculous amount. The sidewalls also cut very easily.

geebung, you have had the opposite experience of what we get out here, most people get around 80-100k out of a set, good puncture resistance from box thorns, the old man certainly mirrors that experience.

Got 50,000 out of my dura tacs and they were f$@#&% completely. A lot of that was on very hard gravel/ rock road between our properties. But they were gone at 35,000. Virtually bald at the end . Toyo's next a/t or cooper at3.

incman, I run Cooper ST Maxx All Terrains, they are a bit more chunky then other all terrains and have found them good in the wet weather. I live in darwin and during the wet season when it rains every afternoon I get a chance to test them . I do carry a fair bit of weight in the back all the time though so this also helps.I have about 30 000 km on them now and they are still going strong with a couple of trips (binns track and kimberly) under them. I run 265/70/r17, how wide a tyre do you run, obviously the wider they are the more contact on the ground hence a bit more grip. Also when choosing a tyre I would reccommend a LT (light truck construction). I was driving across the Gibb River Road on the Toyo Open Country AT tyres that came standard on my car new and one let go with only 15 000 km on it. Note this was not light truck contruction however toyo do make light truck tyres if you choose that brand.

I also run Cooper S/T MAXX tyres and, as lawrie89 says, they're a more aggressive all-terrain. I don't run any weight in the back most of the time though. They were fitted over a fortnight ago.

I'm driving more cautiously in the wet as I know the reputation all-terrains have in those conditions but I have slipped the rear twice on roundabouts and once at the lights. I do think you have to adjust your driving slightly to account for the tread but I'm unsure whether this is specific to the S/T MAXX. I also haven't had a chance to play around or check tyre pressures so take my experience with a grain of salt.

I use to be bfg all way, my 35" a/t took me everywhere with no issues
I'm running Goodyear m/t 33" at the moment and love them, some complane about wet slippage but other the roundabout I've had no issues, and they work well under brakes in wet where it counts, can't speek for the new design with Kevlar,
Have some mates with toyo open country m/t and a/t and I'll deff be look into them on my next set,

I've got 245/75/r16 BFG KO2s and they are brilliant. Handle real well on wet asphalt and even better off road. Haven't had a chance to test em in the mud, but when it rains they'll get a work out.
