So my Hilux 2014 Vigo(Thailand) is stuck in the garage after having the procomp 6inch lift kit installed because the rims dont fit. the garage told me that 16inch rims are fine, so i went and bought...

16x10 offset -24 =it rubbed. where the steering arm attaches onto the knuckle
then shop exchanged them for...
16x8 offset -28 = one side cleared-just, the other side still rubbed

it turns out after i visited the garage that the procomp kits clearly states it needs a 17inch or larger.

problem is the tire and rim shop will no longer exchange and this being Thailand- 17inch and 18 tires are not available- only 16inch!!!!!

so if the -28 almost clears- would that mean a steel rim with offset -40 would comfortably clear?

what are the problems or concerns of using a -40 (i know they will stick out- larger jungle fenders may be added later and laws are not strictly enforced in Thailand!))

Going to a -40 on 10" wide rim from -28 on 10" wide will give you an increased gap of 11mm from rim to steering arm.

I ran -50 on 10" wide, my boat had better handling and in the time I had them (15,000km) went through front wheel bearings and the cv outer shaft had hot spots also pinion seals leaked and was lucky to get 400km to a 75L tank.

Was running 315/75R15 on 15x10 -50
Now run 315/75R17 on 17x8.5 0 offset

50mm body and 50mm suspension lift.

Find it hard to believe you can't get offroad tyres for a 17 or 18" rim..

have been ringing every tire shop in Bangkok and am having the work done in the biggest 4x4 garage here! trying to source tires with other 4x4 garages too and no one has 17s or 18s- lots of their show cars run them but they cant order or find!!!

Yes I did, anything over -20 with a large increase in unsprung mass (Steel rims, MT tyres) is pushing the component limit and when you reinforce one area it will just be a domino effect, leverage with IFS is far greater than solid axle.

Like I said above, less than 400km to a 75L tank. The scrub radius will be way out and the vehicle will tram track, steering won't return to center and be controlled by the wheels not the steering input from the driver (dangerous)

Ive got the same lift kit and it has the same problem the steering knuckles are too long. so what I did was to install spacers that will give -69 offset
Can anyone advise me on what shock do I need to install (compress length & extended length) for the front?

Also looking at the pro comp 6 inch lift kit. I currently have 15 x 10s -44 with a 6mm spacer. (The truck is NOT a legal truck, never will be, and driven only off and onto trailers).

Looking under the truck, with my wheels, there is heaps of clearance around all control arms and rods, nothing fouls.

My question is, why do procomp insist only a 17inch wheel or larger will fit... My thinking is as long as the wheel fits over the brakes (which it does), the offset leaves a ton of clearance for the mechanicals behind the wheel, even at full lock...

Can anyone shed any light on the '17' nessecessity? Different shaped steering knuckle?

17" is necessary to clear the outer tie rod/ knuckle clearance on full lock. I run 16" TRDs, with a spacer, which makes it a -20 offset, the wheels being 0. This also depends on wheel barrel design/thickness.
