Flare Width for 285/75/r16 Tyre

Postby dillza_69 on Wed, 17 Jul 2013 5:17 +0000

Ok, Details are Sr Lux on 285/75/r16 Km2's mounted on 0 offset rims. I have searched, googled and browsed, I cant find a definitive answer on what width flares I need to keep the tyres covered. So far Ive looked at the Utemart flares, sr5 copy & 55mm wide ones. If I can help it id rather not use the 55mm ones as they will look stupid with the ARB commercial bar. I don't really like the look of the rubber flares, I prefer fiberglass ones (like Ute Mart).

The other question is, what have people done to keep the top lip of utemart flares against the guard?

Cheers
Dylan

You need 55mm ones otherwise your car will get sprayed with crap.

I'm told mine are utemart, and I run 285s inside the guards no probs . With IFS it does depend on your lift- as you go higher the wheels tuck under more . Mine sit neat on the guard with nothing holding it , just the screws underneath.

Not overly concerned with spraying mud up the side of the car, more just covering the tyre enough to keep the fuzz off my ass. I have 3" lift if that makes a difference.

So Is the consensus 55mm or can I walk a fine line and go SR5 style flares?

I've got the Utemart flares with 285's mounted on +10 rims and they stick out, just but they stick out and cover the car with mud, but not enough to draw unwanted attention from the boys, unless you drive around acting like a knob. Photos are in my build.
