if your after 0 offset check out the range of METHOD wheels, very nice, just have to google it.

cheers quelch, ive got 31x10.5 on 15's (with whatever the stock offset is) and been happy with them, was just contemplating going to a 32, but then again i've subsequently read a lot of people saying a 32 will chew considerably more fuel ... and I'm already pushing the fuel envelope with a heavy right foot (and bullbar, awning, roof racks, roof basket, spotties, antennas, bullbars, canopy and permanent weight in the vehicle) ... so now thinking maybe i should just be happy with the 31's.

I was keen on the cooper ST MAXX's, though read that they scored a 1 out of 10 for stopping distance (27.8m) whereas almost every other tyre tested was between 21 - 24m (even the MTT's)... that seems a bit of an odd worry

That widens the track buy 100mm
That will also put a lot is strain on other parts
Pretty sure +30 is stock
If you want a stock look fj 17" will work +15
With a 265/70r17 and they won't look like you have 32"

If you want to stick with 31.5-32" tyres
235/85r16. 6-7.5"rim
265/75r16. 7-8"rim
245/75r17. 6.5-7.5"rim
265/70r17. 7-8.5"rim
32x11.5x15 8-9"rim
Different brands may offer different sizes but they are the most common in 31.5-32" tyres

cheers john . Im starting to wonder whether there's much benefit in going from my current 31 to a 32 given i'd also need to change the rims / offset.

A smidge more clearance would be nice of course, but a fair bit of coin and hassle for a small increase.

These are 16 x 8 "0" offset with 265 70-16 with just a 2" lift ...they don't scrub anywhere....except when I had the standard bumper on and no lift......upgrading to 265 75-16 when the Yokis run down a bit more so no mucking with regearing or chopping body mounts

yeah 265/70 on R16 is basically 30.5inch tyre ... im already on 31's but thinking of 32's (and now thinking its not worth it)

Some brands have funny sizing.....these 265/70-16 Yokis are more likes 31s....I think the Cooper ST Max 265/75-16 are 32.5" (813 mm), where as the AT3 are 32' (803 mm)....different tyre sizes from the same manufacturer.....but I spose that must mean deeper tread.

from what I read, a 31inch tyre is still "illegal" as is a 32inch tyre arent' they? (point being if i am already prepared to "be illegal" then its a non issue with regard to deciding bewteen 31 and 32)

anyone know how much heavier the steelies tend to be compared to alloys? I'm pretty anal about weight.

It might be worth looking a hilux max build
His some some custom mods under his lux to give it more ground clearance, without lifting or bigger tyres(yes he has thoes as well) think he got about 50mm more under belly clearance, in turn giving the same effect of 4" bigger tyres for same clearance

Just checked my spare, 265x75x16 ST Maxx is roughly 31.5 inches.

Yeh I'm pretty much limited by my current 15inch rims as most are now r16 or r17

Reading your posts I don't know if Id bother. One inch isn't going to make a huge difference for the outlay. Unless you are wanting to change the look of your truck of course. Have you considered going a set of wheels off an FJ as some on here have? Probably pick up a descent set with tyres for a reasonable price.

Your not limited to 15"
There are loads of tyres avaible in 15" just never the ones you want,
As stated if you want modify your body armer for more clearance and stick with the 31" unless the rear diff clearance is what's holding you up,
Then just shop around for a set of 16+ wheels

I did the same thing recently..

I had 31x10.5x15's on steel 15" Hilux 15x7 rims.. I ummed and arred for ages, then said stuff it, and advertised and sold them on ebay and bought 5 x new 17x8 steel rims with (+10 offset) and 5 x new 265x70x17's (32") MTZ's.

The reason I did that is that the muds are my play tires, (31s on 16s STZ road tires) and even though I could have gone more 15's or even 16's Im planning on upgrading to the new model and will need 17"+ to fit, so i'm hedging my bets..

that ended up being the deciding factor for me. plus i had to do it pre-EOFY

Yeah I'm on the fence now ha ha. Will be at least a couple grand to gain half an inch. Now if it were my pork sword id pay but it's just clearance.

Might wait until the cureent xoopers are worn down and then assess
